PLEASE NOTE, I AM SENDING THIS AGAIN, AS I HAD A PROBLEM WITH SUBSCRIBING.
Sorry!
hello --
i've traced one of my ancestor's son, Philander CARTER, who was b. in MA
(Raynham) in 1801, to Jackson, Jackson, Michigan, in 1850. from that census, it
makes it clear that he went via New York.
in the 1850 census, he and his family were:
Philander CARTER, a. 58, Head, b. MA
Charity CARTER, a. 40, his wife, b. NY
John CARTER, a. 18, b. NY
Frances CARTER, a. 16, b. NY
Sarah CARTER, a. 14, b. NY
Betsey CARTER, a. 11, b. Mich.
Ellen CARTER, a. 9, b. Mich.
<also a (second) John (G.) CARTER, a. 5 (maybe an error or a step-);
and also John SPENCER and David SPENCER, a. 12 & 14.>
Philander CARTER was b. in Raynham, MA, one of 13 siblings (siblings: Sarena
CARTER, Alanson CARTER, Menzies CARTER, Stillman CARTER, Diadamia CARTER,
Maria CARTER, Leonard CARTER, Eliza CARTER, William CARTER, Franklin CARTER,
Clothier CARTER, Charlot CARTER & Clarissa CARTER. (From Eliza on, they had a
diff. mother).
seeking further info on Philander CARTER -- what happened to him? where did
he go after that, etc.? also seeking info on his CHILDREN and SIBLINGS. i've
sent various posts about this family, but not out of NE and not in Michigan.
i think that most of them left MA. i still live in that area, and few were
around by 1850.
Philander CARTER's parents were: Stanley CARTER (1760-1844) and Bethiah
LEONARD (1764-1804). Stanley CARTER's second wife was Polly KNAPP (b. 1781).
perhaps there are CARTERS from this area (MI) or other states who have been
trying to find their ancestors in MA. if you are looking for them, i live only
a town away from where they were born, and will be glad to give you the info
i have. Stanley CARTER was a person who has always been hard to find.
any info appreciated!
