Hi Everyone:
I've meandered back to my CARTER line and hope someone is out there who can help.
My last known Carter ancestor was Rebecca M. CARTER, b. 2Sept1823 in GA, d. 1Jun1902 in
Coffee Co, AL, m. Jonathan J. BRUNSON 15Jan1843 in Randolph Co, GA, b. 7Feb1820 in SC, d.
10Jun1904 in Coffee Co, AL. I am trying to identify her parents.
I have been researching each of the males in the Randolph Co, GA census in 1840, going
backwards and forwards since I've not be lucky enough to just find a will naming her.
There are several grown males in 1840 Randolph Co. but only one who has a female in the
right age range to be Rebecca. That is John A. CARTER who is in Randolph Co, GA from 1840
to 1860 and appears to be in Monroe Co, GA in 1830 and Jasper Co, GA in 1820. There is a
marriage for a John A. CARTER to a Avarilla McMICHAEL in Jasper Co. on 19Mar1816 which
would fit with the age ranges for the children of John A. in the early censuses. In 1850
there is a John A., age 58 in Randolph Co, GA, wife is Ann also 58. Children in the
household are Mary, age 20, Elizabeth, age 18 and Nancy, age 16. Early censuses would
give John A and Avarilla right children: 1 M b. bet 1815-1820, 1 M b. bet. 1820-1825, 1 F
b. bet. 1820-1825 (hopefully my Rebecca), 2 M b. bet. 1825-1830, Mary b. abt 1830 in GA,
Elizabeth b. abt 1!
832 in GA and Nancy b. abt 1834 in GA. I've found at least one researcher who has
Mary and Elizabeth as the same person, so that's a possibility at this point as well,
although it would contradict two separate census records (1850 and 1860).
Does anyone know anything about this John A. CARTER that might help me prove or disprove
the above hypothesis that he is the father of Rebecca?
