Thomas was my ancestor, through his son Josiah Carter.
According to the Josiah Carter book by Randolph Malone, Thomas owned land in
Cumberland Co, VA (on the North Side of the James River, near the branches
of Fleming's Park Creek, "on branches of said river falling into Rock Castle
lowlands". At least most of it was later sold by his sons). The book
doesn't show a land transfer to John and Rebecca McGuire nor does it show a
daughter named Rebecca. However, if Rebecca had died her family might not
have been mentioned in the 1763 will, especially if Thomas gave them land
earlier.
