Hi -- I have just recently joined the Carter Rootsweb mailing. I was
wondering if anyone can help me find the parents (and siblings?) of my gg
grandmother. Her name was Sarah E. Carter, born 13 Feb 1831 (but don't
know
where -- the birth information is taken from her application for widow
pension in the Civil War). She married William B. Arrowood 14 Mar 1850 in
Yancey County, North Craolina. William died 18 Jan 1865 and on 16 May
1865
Sarah applied for the military pension as William's widow. She
was living
in
Greene County, TN when she applied for the pension.
She married David Presnell on 17 Aug 1865 in Greene County, TN, and they
applied for David to be the receipiant of the pension as the step-father
to
Sarah and William's children.
I would like to find Sarah's parents plus find where and when Sarah died.
I
do find that the children were listed in the 1870 Census as a member of
David
Presnells household. Then on 2 July 1872, they are listed as Thomas Law's
wards (Houston, Greene Co. Orphans Court, p.62, cites p.121 of record
book).
I am wondering if both Sarah and David Presnell died between 1870 and 1872
but have been unable to locate this information.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.
