Regarding:"A BRIEF HISTORY AND GENEALOGY OF THE CARTER AND SOME ALLIED
FAMILIES" by Lyle Carter 901 No. K Street, Lake Worth, FL. 33460.
I read with interest Janet's copy of it.
Especially #5 Gyles Carter, died 15865, in Glouchestershire, England, wife
unknown. His son John...... married Mry Laurance, ...... They had a son
Giles Carter,Esq., married in 1623 to Elizabeth Tracy, daughter of Sir Paul
Tracy.... His son Giles II whose will of 14 Dec 1699, probated 1701, in
Henrico Co., Va., mentioned Hannah(Crews) as his wife...etc.
I have a copy of a letter from, John Woosley, of the Glouchestershire Family
History Society, together with a copy of an inscription in the "Church of
Aston Blank or Cold Aston". It is an inscription "In Memoriam" of Gyles
Carter and Elizabeth, of the family of Tracy, and wife of Gyles. It states
in part:
"Gyles Carter, was the eldeft Son of John Carter, of Nether Swell, in the
County of Gloucefter, Efq. his two Brethern being John Carter, of
Charlton-Abbats, and William Carter of Brees Norton, in Oxfordfire. He
married Elizabeth, the Daughter of Sir Paul Tracy, of Stanwell, and died
without iffue."
Based on the above, the "Giles Carter, Esq" whose will of 14 Dec 1699
probated in Henrico Co, must surely belong to another family. And this path
should be pursued by those of this line.
