TOM,
Could William be another son of the John below? If so, I have lots
more. The reason I ask is because I noticed his first born son was named
John, and he was born in Virginia. Also, David V. Carter son of Henry
Carter who is a son of the John below, David V. Carter joined the
Confederacy in Dallas, GA, and I never could figure out why he was in
Georgia??? Kathy Wells

Subject: [CARTER-L] William Carter
My grgrandpa William Carter migrated to Spring Place, Murray County,
Georgia
in 1846, according to my grandpa's Civil War Pension
Application.The 1850
Murray County census shows the following:
William Carter, 38, M, b.VA
Ann E. , 26, F, b. TN
John W. , 15, M. , b.NC
Stephen G., 13, M, b.NC (my grandpa)
Mary C. , 7, F, b. TN
James M., 20 , M. , b. NC
I have not been able to trace John's whereabouts, but find where James
married Martha Davis from Dalton, GA and settled in Dalton, living along
side or across from Nathan Carter, but I have not been able to determine
their relationship.
William and Ann , after settling in Spring Place, had two other children,
as
the 1870 Murray County census shows:
William Carter, 58, M , W., Carpenter, b. VA
Ann E. , 45, F. , W, Housekeeper, b. TN
Mary C., 25, F., W. ,b.TN
Samuel B., 13, M. , W, farm laborer, b. GA
Juda, 1 , F. W , b. GA
I believe that Samuel B. is buried in an unmarked grave in Spring Place
Cemetery, and 2 of his children are buried there.
After the 1870 census, William and Ann disappeared and I have not been
able
to find them. I do know that William was at one time Postmaster of
the the
Fort Mountain Post Office in Spring Place, but don't know much more about
him.
Does anyone have any information on William, Ann E.. or their children
Samuel B. and Juda??Any help will be very much appreciated. Tom P.
