Found these in 1880 census, hope it helps.
They were both in Crenshaw co living close to each other .the older couple
were the only other Carters in that section.could be the parents of Jacob.

Subject: [CARTER-L] Jacob Carter
Hello
Does anyone connect with Jacob Carter, born 1855, and Elizabeth Bennett,
born 1857? They lived for awhile in Crenshaw County, AL, before moving
to Texas.
We have no idea who the parents of Jacob were, but we know Elizabeth
Bennett was the daughter of William Franklin Bennett and Amy Crenshaw.
Among Jacob and Elizabeth Bennett Carter's children are:
Loyce Jane Carter 1879 - 1953
Thomas R. Carter 1888 -
James C. Carter 1892 -
Raymond Bennett Carter 1896 -
Thank You
Shirley
