Hello Greg - I am Jim Conaway, ggg grandson of Thomas Carter, born in
Abbeville, SC, in 1797. He migrated to Coosa County, AL, in 1848 and his
family and many of my ancestors stayed there.
I am not familiar with either of the Carter men you mention, but I am
interested to hear of other Carters from South Carolina in that time frame.
I have not been able to find birth records of Thomas, nor can I trace him
back to the Carters from Barford, Virginia with certainty. My best source
of information has been the book The Descendants of Capt. Thomas Carter of
"Barford," Lancaster, Virginia, by Joseph Miller, MD, 1912.
I am also curious where you were able to find marriage records of these
Carters.
Best regards - Jim Conaway

Subject: [CARTER] Barnwell Co. SC Carter family
Greetings, everyone.
I am trying to find descendants and or connections to two Carter men from
Barnwell County, South Carolina:
William Carter, Sr., b. ca 1784, found in the 1850 census of Barnwell Co.,
SC in America Twp., married to Peggy (Margaret Copeland), not found in 1860
and presumed to have died before 1860 in Barnwell Co.
Henry Carter, b. ca 1810, found in the 1850 census of Barnwell Co., SC in
Barnwell Twp., married to Betsy (Elizabeth Hiers), died ca 1880 in Barnwell
Co.
I am interested in finding a male descendant of William who has done a y-DNA
test that I can compare to a 111-marker test for a descendant of Henry.
Census information from 1850 back to 1810 points to the possibility that
Henry was the son of William, Sr.
Many family trees on Ancestry show William Sr. to be the son of Jesse and
Margaret Rentz Hughes Carter, and the estate sale for Jesse

where Wm Carter Senr. purchased much of the estate, lends credence to that
relationship. Comparing y-DNA from the descendants of the two men would
help to determine if they are indeed father and son.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time.
Peace,
Greg Lovelace
