Hi All,
Several
list members of various Rootsweb lists are having issues with being
unsubscribed automatically. It is not at the request of either the subscribers or the
admins. It appears to be the ISP's that are blocking the Rootsweb emails and
unsubbing their email clients. At first I only had one list affected,
which followed a spam message making it through to the list. The spam
was from a member normally in good standing who had been infected by a
virus. I assumed that was the cause of the problem. If someone marks
the message as spam, and it's coming through Rootsweb's email system,
ISP's think that Rootsweb is spamming and block the messages. Many
times they will automatically unsubscribe their email client. AOL and Comcast are the
main ISP's that do this.
Rootsweb has been looking into the problem and has just released the following notice:
"Due
to recent changes made by many e-mail providers with DMARC security
settings many Mailing List members are finding that they are being
unsubscribed. Roots Web engineers are working with the e-mail providers
to find a solution to this issue. We appreciate your patience."
This
is mostly affecting AOL and Comcast email clients. Some subscribers
have reported that it is also affecting emails from Ancestry.com. Many
are suggesting that you contact your ISP to request that they stop
blocking the messages. You can also try contacting Rootsweb or
Ancestry.com to request customer solutions. Several subscribers are
moving to GMail
until the issue is resolved.

If
you get unsubscribed, please know that it wasn't me. I don't
unsubscribe anyone unless they commit extreme offenses on the list, and
after being warned. You are welcome to resubscribe. I usually require
approval for subscription, due to spammers, but I am resetting all my
lists to confirm instantly. If you are an AOL or Comcast client, you
might consider the Gmail route. Whoever your ISP is, check your spam
folder frequently to make sure your Rootsweb or other messages aren't
going to the spam folder.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.
Kind regards,
Dee
