Hello, Everyone,
I recently found a Springfield, Illinois newspaper article from 1918 that
featured an interview with F.M. Brewer (son of Henry Brewer and Martha
Carter of Harrison County, Indiana). Martha Carter was a daughter of
William D. and Eleanor Lemmon Carter of Harrison County, Indiana. In the
article Francis Marion (F.M. or Frank) Brewer stated that his grandfather
(might be a great grandfather), Danford Carter, had served in the American
revolution and also in the Battle of the Wabash or St. Clair's defeat on
November 4, 1791. I have been unable to find documentation on Danford
Carter at all.
The article went on to say that F.M. Brewer's grandfather, W.D. Carter, was
in the Battle of Tippecanoe (Nov. 4, 1811), the War of 1812 and the Black
Hawk War of 1832. I have since verified that William Carter was indeed in
the War of 1812.
I am now speculating that Danford Carter was William's father. I would be
happy to hear from anyone who has information on any of this and any
descendants of William D. Carter (1796-1873).
