I just realized what I wrote. Robert "King" Carter didn't have a brother!!
He had two half-brothers, one older and one younger, but neither half-brother of Robert
"King" Carter continued the Carter family name.
The older half-brother had only one surviving child -- a daughter -- and the young
half-brother is said to have died without ever having married.

Molly,
I do not think you are related to the brother of Robert "King" Carter. Not if
you are from Jacob Carter of Colleton County, South Carolina. They are two different
Carter lines.
Here are the Y-DNA Haplogroups of some of the famous Carter lines:
R1b-02 : Capt. Thomas Carter, Sr. of Lancaster County "of Barford" (wife
Katherine Dale)
R1b-04 : Capt. Thomas Carter, Sr. of Isle of Wight County, Virginia
R1b-32 : Robert "King" Carter of Virginia
I-03 : Jacob Carter of Colleton County, South Carolina
R1b-01 : William Carter of Middlesex County, Virginia
E : John Carter, Sr. of Watauga (Carter County, Tennessee)
R1a-02 : Giles Carter, Sr. of Henrico County, Virginia
In the past a lot of researchers tried to connect together everybody with the Carter
surname but now we know Thomas of Barford, Thomas of Isle of Wight, Robert
"King" Carter, and Jacob Carter of Colleton County, South Carolina were NOT
related.
Repeat: Jacob Carter of Colleton County, South Carolina is I-03. Robert "King"
Carter is R1b-32. Two different Carter lines.
