Ginger, it is: The Descendants of Capt. Thomas Carter of "Barford"
Lancaster County,VA." by Joseph Lyon Miller. It goes from 1652-1912. I have a
2nd
edition. Dr. Miller was a member of the Virginia Historical Society, so he
is quite thorough. You may not find it at a library. I got mine from
Higgenson Books. Frank

Frank, is this book titled Thomas Carter or authored by Thomas Carter?
I'd
like to check it out for my ancestors also.

Katherine, have you checked the Thomas Carter book? Thomas and Katherine
(Dale) Carter of VA had several sons. While there are errors in the book,
they are easily checked out and corrected. Frank Horton

Hi, Ginger,
Unfortunately, since I have absolutely no other names of Carters in my
line, I wouldn't know where to look. He was a prominent and wealthy man
of
his time, so it's incredible to me that he left no better paper trail.
Sigh. But thanks for anything you may be able to find.

Hi Katherine,
The only Carter I've focused on to date is William Carter of Halifax
Co., North Carolina who fought in the Revolutionary War. Many
Carters fought
in
this war, so if you think your ancestor was in the USA at that
time,
you might check the DAR website and search their online database.
Many of
the
verified applications show children. This would be probably 2-3
generations
prior to your ancestor's birth, though, so maybe civil war
records or
pension records might help more. I will keep your e-mail, so if I
run across this name I'll let you know.

Aha, a fresh Carter researcher, Ginjer. Don't suppose you've heard
of a Bentley Frederick Carter, born probably around 1870, allegedly
in Jesup,
GA
and died in Dec. 1931, probably in Atlanta? He was my grandfather,
and
is
my genealogical brick wall. Help?
