Subject: Re: [CARTER] William Carter, d. 1810, Halifax Co., NC
Ginger, we may have communicated before, but just in case, I have a copy of
his son's transcribed pension file online:
http://www.ncgenweb.us/halifax/military/wm_carter.htm
Also, some of the people named in the 1810 will have will abstracts which
may be of help, showing possible connections.
These are from Genealogical Abstracts of Wills, Halifax Co., NC, 1758 -1824
, by Margaret Hofmann:
(first, just in case George's copy hasn't come thru yet)
#Will #788 -pg. 500 - WILLIAM CARTER - 17 Mar. 1810 - May Ct. 1810 lend
wife DEANITIA CARTER negroes etc. for her widowhood or life and at her
decease it to go to: WILLIAM CARTER, THEODERICK CARTER, JOSEPH CARTER and
FRANCIS CARTER lend wife land whereon FRANCIS COLEY now lives joining
WILLIAM PIKE and WOOD J. HAMLIN containing 50 acres daughter MARY SAWYER
negroes and at her death the sd. negroes to go to her children (names not
given) daughters MARTHA BAKER, NANCY BOSTON(?) and LUCY PIKE negroes each

grandson BELFIELD N. CARTER 1 negro each THORNTON MALLARD son of JOHN
MALLARD decd. 1 colt.
Wit: WOOD J. HAMLIN, JESSE CARTER, BENJAMIN CARTER

Now for some of the names** above, could possibly be connected:

Wit: W. C. BALLARD, BEECA(?) BALLARD, STERLING CARTER
Extrs: son JESSE and WALTER C. BALLARD
#722 - pg 443 - JOHN MALLARD - 4 Feb 1804 - Aug Ct 1805 land and

There are obviously some family connections between these individuals, and I
think the key is to finding out more about each of them

Hi George,
Thank you for responding! I would love an abstract of Will Carter's 1810
will. What I have is from a DAR member's application, so doesn't have the
backup documents.
On William Carter's parents, I am researching this as well. Someone has
them as James Carter and Elizabeth Roach, and has William's birthday as
1746. I am looking for proof.
Best regards,
Ginger Adams
