Subject: [CARTER] William Carter (d. 1847), Macon Co., TN
While technically correct, William Carter (d. 1847), son of William Carter (d. 1810) was
not a "Jr." in the few records I have seen. Known as "Billy" he was
born 9 Jun 1760 in Halifax Co., NC and died 21 Feb 1847 and is buried in the William
Carter Cemetery, Macon Co., TN.
From: Macon County Historical Society, Macon County, Tennessee, Cemeteries, Volume I
(Lafayette, Tennessee: no publisher, 1987), XXII, 23.
And: William Carter file, no. S3127, Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty-Land-Warrant
application files, microcopy 804, roll 487 (Washington, D. C.: National Archives, 1969).
I can not find a Joseph Carter who died in 1839 in Sumner Co., TN.

I just noticed a RootsWeb database posted by Freddy Brown and last updated 2010-02-17. It
reports that William Carter, Jr. died in 1847 and is buried in Macon County, Tennessee. It
reports that Joseph Carter died in 1839 in Sumner County, Tennessee. Sumner County is
adjacent to Macon County.
It could be just a coincidence but Macon County, Tennessee is where the family of Kit #
93825 was living in 1860.
