Hi Deloris,
Thank you for the transcript of the will and all the other information.
George's transcript did come through as well. I read some from the Thomas
Carter book (online) and also the Giles Carter of Virginia book. From both
books, it seems likely that my ancestor William Carter is through the Giles
Carter line. I understand what you mean about James and Elizabeth not being
the parents. After reading through your message it appears for sure my
William was of the Giles line. Too bad there wasn't a will for Giles, Jr.
I will see what else can be learned.
Hollis Boston did some research on son William Carter who moved to TN, I
noticed. William Carter (the son) witnessed the signing when Jones and
Nancy Boston purchased property in Smith Co., TN in 1811 and named their
first son William Carter Boston (probably after Nancy's father).

Exactly.
I had previously also posted these in another response to Ginger's inquiry
because there are signs of a connection; I haven't heard one way or the
other as to whether or not it was received or reviewed, but perhaps a 2nd
look will help, which includes a series of deed abstracts from 2 messages in
reference to the WILLIAM CARTER, d. 1810 Will:

A word about this William Carter possibly being the son of James & Elizabeth
Carter, as per your earlier message.
While these aren't the families I am researching, I think that it is wise of
you to not be too sure of that one either, since I don't see any of the
names in common between James Carter & William Carter, 1810, and their son
seems to be a bit younger than William who died in 1810 would have been in
1776. There were at least 2 William Carters in Halifax Co. during the 1700s
at the same time, and they appear to have NOT been from the same families
because of the names associated with them. I can quote you the abstracts of
wills for James and Elizabeth Carter, and you will see what I mean, it would
seem to me that at least one of the William Carter's family members would
have at least one name in common with the James Carter family, and I'm
talking about family members as well as witnesses and/or neighbors.

be questionable as to whether or not it is same as yours)
(these following are interesting, notice the locations & names in
conjunction with the ones quoted above and some of the names from his will,
could be a clue, William Carter, d. 1810, would have been a full grown man
by at least 1760, the year the William Carter in the Rev. Pension gave as
his birth year.)

one further record I want to call to your attention from Abstracts 1758-
1771, Deed Book 7:
#140- (131) GILES CARTER JR. of Halifax Co. to WILLIAM CARTER of same. 16
June 1760. 1 horse and 30 shillings current money. 150 acres, joining
Northumberland Creek, HAWS. GILES CARTER. Wit: ROBT. CARTER,

I see no will for Giles Carter in Halifax or Edgecombe Counties.
There is one record I see in the old Edgecombe Co. deeds which may possibly
be of interest, but I don't know whether or not this was the same William
Carter, but you may want to check into it.
"Abstracts of Deeds, Edgecombe Precinct, Edgecombe Co.,NC 1732-1758":
Deed Book 3- pg. 429
WILLIAM CARTER son of GEORGE CARTER decd. of Edge. Co. to JOSEPH LANE of
Edge. Co. esquire. 22 Aug 1749 16 pounds current money VA 200 acres

patent to GEORGE CARTER 20 Nov 1739 Wit: HENRY POPE, WILLIAM UTLEY
Reg. Edge Co. Nov. Ct. 1749 B. Wynns, C. Ct.
There are lots of deed records of Giles/Jiles Carter & a William Carter in
Halifax (formed 1758 from Edgecombe), and even earlier in Edgecombe Co., and
I do not know anything about their ancestry or descendants, but it seems to
me that there was a family relationship between Giles & William Carter, just
as there seems to have been a relationship between William and Jesse &
Benjamin Carter, perhaps they were brothers or cousins, but I would look to
those names to further research on the ancestry of your William.

The name "THEODERICK CARTER" is a strong hint of a connection to Giles
Carter of Henrico County, Virginia.
