Does anyone here have information on the Carter family that once owned Pope's Hill
plantation in Prince William County, Virginia?
I think this Giles (Jr.) is the son of the "other" Giles (Sr.) Carter (married
to Mary Reeds). That is, the Giles (Sr.) who was the son of William & Elenor ( Eleanor
) Carter of King George County, Virginia, not the Giles & Hannah Carter of Henrico
County, Virginia.
Giles & Hannah Carter also had a son named Giles but that Giles (Jr.) was married to
Mary Povall. Two different couples:
Giles (Sr.) & Mary (Reeds) Carter of King George County, Virginia
Giles (Jr.) & Mary (Povall) Carter of Henrico County, Virginia
I don't know the name of the wife of Giles (Jr.) who bought Pope's Hill. I would
be interested in learning it.
"Giles and brother John moved from King Geo. Co. to Pr. Wm co VA soon after
1745."
"In 1771 Giles bought "Pope's Hill"."
"May 5, 1794, William Carter and wife, Betty, sold to Jas. Smith a plantation called
"Pope's Hill," purchased by Wm. in 1790, from his brothers, Samuel and
David, to Whom it was devised by their father, Giles Carter."

"The Board on Geographic Names decided upon Chopawamsic Creek as the stream's
official name in 1891."
"Chopawamsic Creek is a tributary stream of the Potomac River in Prince William and
Stafford counties, Virginia."
