I finally got a copy of her father's probate records - he died intestate and his
oldest son Jesse took care of things. His adult children, including Caroline, are listed
as heirs. So, YAY! Finally got some documentation.
If any of you is researching this family, I can send that information to you.

Subject: [CARTER] Nancy Caroline Carter 1822-1882 Monroe Co., MS
Is she in your family? Do you have any documentation or leads as to where I can
find records that link her to her parents?
According to her tombstone, Nancy was born 1 Jan 1822 (Monroe Co., MS); died 15
Jul 1882.
Nancy married Thomas Judkins Riggan on 17 Feb 1839 - I have their marriage
certificate and a picture of her tombstone. I was hoping that her father had
signed for her to get married since she was only 17, but his name is not on
there.
I “know” that her parents were John Meredith (Merry) Carter and Mary Amanda
McKinney but I have no documentation to back that up – only my great aunt’s
word. Her father or brother (same name) did sign for her daughter Mary Elizabeth
Riggan to get married, but his relationship to her is not stated on the
document.
I have a copy of her father's probate (he died intestate Oct 1867) but she is
not listed; only his oldest son is noted as his child and other sons are listed.
I did find her grandfather’s 1849 will, but that didn’t help either.
Would appreciate any help someone can give me.
Marlene
