So I though, great, I now have specific birthdates, not given in the cem. record. Then I
looked up the Death Certificate for the John W. who died on the date above.
Looks like the John Carter with those dates, and said to be buried in the Graniteville
Cem, ( and there is no other John Carter listed in the
Graniteville Cem book according the the Carters I checked listed from CARTER index) does
not give his parents or wife Moses & Nancy Carter.
Do I have two John Carters being mixed up?

So.... Is the John Carter 1845 to 1943 the son of Moses and Nancy Carter or the son of
(Blashengor) Carter and Charity Hall??
I checked the 1850 census for Charity Carter and found this:
I found this Census record for 1850 with Charity and Blassinggame Carter

I had gotten the following census records which seemed to match the John
Carter in the Cemetery with wife Martha Durst who I had attached to Moses and Nancy Reams
Carter:
CENSUS: 1870 Gregg township, Edgefield Co, Graniteville PO, p. 244A-B
Martha DURST 44 F W $300/100 keeping house, SC
John CARTER 25 M W Farmer, $475, SC
Martha E. Carter 20 F W SC
George A. Carter 1/12 M W SC b. July 1870
M. F. DURST 23 F W SC
Laura Dorn 8 F B SC
G. B. Payne 45 M W SC
Note the record states he is born in SC.
The following census records I have as the same person, BUT may in fact be a different
person if we have two John Carters, and they are merged and mixed up, or parents
information is wrong from census to DC??? These records state he is born in GA, with
father in AL

Was he the CW soldier, or has someone in their research attached the wrong
cem. record to the soldier?
There just seems to be descrepancies here.
Moses Carter died sometime before October 22 , 1863. His estate was
administered by Charles Carter. I assume that this is his brother Charles, since father
Charles died in 1843, and it seems that his son Charles may have died prior to the 1860
census. This compiler did not go to actual estate papers, for further info, just the
index. [Ordinary/Probate Judge: Index to Estate Papers 1785-1985, microfilm ED 54, SC
State Archives, Columbia, SC] The actual papers may give some new info. on his family.
Moses Carters Estate Adm. can be found in Edgefield Co. Probate Records Box 87-3463 on
microfilm at the State Archives. I assume they can also be found in Edgefield Probate
office.
Just another puzzle to solve.
Any help would be appreciated.
