Last I heard, that was not known definitively, although John Jr, when he died, was married
to a Dorcas or Dorothy. Does anyone have any new information on that?

Subject: [CARTER] Carters of Greene County TN and connection to family of Davy Crockett
Hi All,
I am looking for people on the list researching the Carters who
arrived in the 1780's in Greene County TN. I am a descendant of John
Carter Sr. and Jr.. Recently I spent a day at the NC state archives ,
locating warrant and survey paperwork for this family that was filed
in NC when Greene County belonged to that state. As far as I am aware
(and I could be wrong on this), this paper trail confirms that the
Carters were in Greene County as early as 1783, but evidence for their
presence before that, while supposed, is sparse. Family lore has been
that our Greene County relatives were somehow related to Davey
Crockett. I have never seen any evidence of this, but, while at the
archives, I noticed a file for one John Crocket and took a closer
look. It appears that the warrant for the land in question was
originally entered by John Carter in Feb of 1780, and then, in 1789,
he signed it over to John Crocket, who then had the survey done late 1791. This
information places the !
Carters most definitively in Greene in early 1780. Are others aware
of this paperwork, and, if so, does anyone know if this John Crocket
was indeed the father of Davey Crockett? Many thanks in advance for
anyone who can enlighten me regarding this.
