Oh, sorry. I am talking about the first Carters who arrived in Greene in the 1780's.
There was John Carter, Sr, who was one of the patriarchs, and his son John, Jr. They are
believed to be from NJ originally, traveling through West Virginia and Surry County, NC on
their way to Greene. As I understand it, there were two or three brothers, each with
several sons, and a couple of younger Carter men of uncertain relationships, who were
traveling together. This is not to be confused with the more famous John Carter (with son
Landon Carter) who was also in the area at that time (in Elizabethton).

Last I heard, that was not known definitively, although John Jr, when
he died, was married to a Dorcas or Dorothy. Does anyone have any new
information on that?
