The Grimes I might have a link to is Elizabeth Grimes who may have married a William
Carter. They had a daughter Mary who married a William Booker.
This William Carter is of interest to me since it is possible he is the brother to a Robin
Carter ( abt.1730) who I am looking for, but I am not for sure. Still poking around.

Mr. Carter,
What Grimes line do you have? In Mama's genealogy ( whose lines are Herring/Carter),
she also has a Grimes line. It connects with her Belue family out of Mississippi... and I
believe she had lines in Pototoc County in Mississippi. That seems to be where I found
Nancy in 1850 but I will have to check.
Thanks again
Polly

Hi, I continue to look (without success, thus far) for my Carter
grandfather, Bentley Frederick Carter, who is said to have been born in
Jesup, GA around 1870ish. (Any reference to Georgia Carters makes me
perk up my ears!) The 1930 census lists both his parents as having been
born in Georgia as well, but I haven't a clue as to their names. Nor
have I found any verification of his birth place or date. He is said to
have had at least one brother, and he married (for the second time) in
1919 my grandmother, Alma Irene Mulligan, b. 1895 in Lenoir City, TN.
Since you did mention Georgia, I'm grasping at your straw, in hopes that
the somewhat unusual name of Bentley might ring a bell.

I'm researching the line of two brothers; William Taylor Carter
(b. 1805; d.1891) and John R. Carter b.1808;
d.1869) in Ashley Co., Arkansas. They came through Wilkes county,
Georgia in the early 1800's and both brothers married sisters in the Fuqua family.
Their father was John (Jack) A. Carter
(b.1784; d. 1860) and mother I believe was Theodocia Dunaway. Jack Carter moved on to
Texas and then back to Mississippi where he died in 1860 in Pontotoc Co.
John (Jack) Carter's parents were Francis Scott Carter (b.1759? Rockingham Va,; d.
1783 Baldwin, Ga) and Margaret Taylor (b. abt 1768 Rockingham, Va; d.?)
From
there back I am finding conflicting information on Francis Scott
Carter's parents. I found some information that indicates his father
could have been John Carter (b. 1737 Henrico, Va.) and married a Rebecca Stuart in 1754,
Brunswick Co,
Va.
Then I have some information that his father was a Robin Carter and had a brother William
who married Elizabeth Grimes and another UNKNOWN brother who possibly had a son James
Carter.
But I do not have enough info to be positive on either of these findings.
Does anyone have any information on any of these individuals?
Thanks
John Carter
