Jesse Marshall carter, second son of James Madison Carter and Ann(Mary Ann,
or Amy) Turner, was born
May 7, 1846 in Cumberland County, KY.
In July 1848, when Jesse was two his father died. Jesse's mother and two
brothers live with his
Turner grandparents, Larkin and Jane Heard Turner. In 1852, Jesse's
Grandmother Jane died and in 1855, when he was 9, his mother died. In 1857,
Grandfather Larkin Turner died.
In 1856, at the age of ten, he was taken in by his Aunt Rachel(his mother's
sister) and her husband, Joseph
S. Truener-- apparently unrelated-- his family from Virginia, but arrived in
Cumberland County long after
her family.
Shortly thereafter the Turners moved form Monroe County, Kentucky to Wright
County Mo with nephew
Jess Marshall Carter, and settled in the Clarks Creek area, five miles East
of Hartville, MO.
Civil War Service: 3 years, Private, Company B, 8th Regiment, Missouri
Cavalry, Union Army.
Cornelius Carter, oldest son of James Madison and Ann Turner Carter with his
Great Uncle Thomas Carter,
brother of Josiah Carter, Sr. Cornelius served the the First Kentucky
Cavalry. After the war he and
his wife Missouri Cloud Carter moved to Missouri.
Jerry Madison Carter, Youngest son of James Madison and Ann also lived with
grandparents until their
death. After the war Jerry went to Orange County, IN to find his
half-sister, Susanna. There he met and married Melinda Elizabeth Melton and Jerry
became a farmer in Craw3ford County, IN.
I have been to KY and found the grave of Ann Turner and talked with members
of her family several years
ago. No one can find a death certificate for James Madison Carter. His
first wife name was Rhona Ray
from southern Indiana, possibly Orange County. After Rhonda died Susanna
was left in the care of her
maternal grandparents.
I have the family Bible that give me most of the above information. I also
have letters that family members
have written through the years.
If you can be of any help-please advise.

Two of his gr-grandsons ended up in Barren Co, KY in the 1860s....although I
don't know why they were there unless they had close cousins there already.
Anyway, I thought Bailey Sr. had died about 1811 in Montgomery co, VA where
he was living, because he disappeared from the Montgomery Co, Va tax rolls
about then. But then I found this: A Bailey Carter & wife over 45 in
1820 Monroe Co, Ind. census. I have every Bailey (which there were only
about 1 or 2) accounted for, so I'm thinking this has to be our Bailey now
in Monroe Co, Ind. Why would they go there at that age unless they had
other relatives (perhaps an older son or a brother) already there!
Anyone have anything that might match up? Do you know if they
have tax rolls for the 1810-1830 period of time?
Thanks, Kathy Wells

Good Morning,
Please remove this email address from this list serve. I would like to use this address instead kimani2(a)hotmail.com
Thank you,
Lisa Carter
Richard, I am interested in your gg grandfather John Carter who was born
1813 in KY. My McWilliam Carter was born abt. 1819 in KY. I'm always
looking for Carters from that period. Do you know any of John's siblings'
names? I cannot find any records for my guy until 1850, by then he was
living in AR with his sister Susan.
I'm another Nancy - Nancy Tuuling
Mary,
Tell me more on Roland I have never heard of him unless he was a cousin or a middle name. The
family came from Irland by way of N.C. As far back as I can go is Thomas Carter 1788 N.C.
