That article was probably written before April 1930 as Zelma Carter's name changed that date. She married and became Zelma Schnake.

Hi I would like to email address of Joe Please.
Judah above was a Bowman, the family said to have been Black Dutch, and she
married John Moor
I have Carter and Bowman family too. Caswell Carter name his daughter
Mahalah (that is how the Census taker spelled it) it could have been Mahala.
I don't know.

Key to chart: this chart uses a number system, such as the following =
example;
1,1,1)Margaret MULLINS, The first number indicates the first generation, =
(in this case James MULLINS), the second number indicates the next
generation, this being the first son or daughter of #1 (Samuel MULLINS), =
and the third being the 1st son or daughter (Margaret MULLINS) of
the 1st son or daughter of #1, and so on. So, Margaret MULLINS would be =
the first daughter of the first son of James MULLINS.
(*) asterisk usually signifies a correction has been made, and the =
explanation can be found at the bottom of that specific chart.
________________________________________________________________
1) James MULLINS (also spelled MULLENS)- b.ca. 1780 in England(?). =
Migrated to Hancock
Co., TN ca. 1805 (at that time, Hancock Co was part of Hawkins Co). In =
the Hancock Co.
census of 1880, his surviving children listed their father as being born =
in Eng. As far as I know,
that is the only documentation that states this.
According to the Grohse Files, he had a 'hair-lip' and "couldn't hardly =
smoke a pipe"
(quotations unknown). He married Clara MARTIN, who may have been the =
daughter of James
Martin, ca.1805. Some researchers, such as De Marce, and Dromgoole, =
believe Clara was a
COLLINS. They settled on Newman's Ridge and had the following children:
1.Samuel MULLINS-b.ca.1809 TN. Married 1. Morning GIBSON, b. in VA, dau. =
of Fisher and
Sookey GIBSON. 2. Mary GIBSON, Morning's sister.
2.Prudence MULLINS-b.1810 TN. Married, ca.1839 in Hawkins Co., TN, =
George MISER.
3. Betsy (Elizabeth) MULLINS-b.ca.1811 in TN. Around 1831, she married =
Alfred COLLINS,
son of Vardy COLLINS and his wife Peggy GIBSON Collins.
4. Zerah (also known as Isiah, or Wilson Zere) MULLINS-b.ca. 1813 TN. He =
married 1.Prude
MISER, ca. 1834. Prudence was believed to be the sister of George MISER, =
Prude Mullins'
husband. 2. Lydia BIRD, believed to be the dau. of Levi and Sarah BIRD.
5.James MULLINS-b. ca.1815 TN. Married 1. ca.1834, Lindy GIBSON, dau. of =
Jonathan and
Frankie GIBSON. 2. Nancy COLLINS.=20
6. John MULLINS-b. ca.1823 TN. Married Mahala COLLINS, dau. of Solomon =
and Gincie
(GOINS) COLLINS.
7. Nancy MULLINS-b.ca. 1825 KY. (m.Harrison GIBSON?)
More detail will be given on each child in the following pages.

1, 1) Samuel MULLINS, son of "Irish Jim", b.ca.1809 in TN (probably =
Hawkins/Hancock Co).
He married 1. Morning GIBSON, dau of Fisher and Sookey GIBSON. They had =
one child, who
died. After Morning died, Sam married her sister, Mary GIBSON, who was =
widow of Dotson
GIBSON, who himself was killed by Confederate raiders during the Civil =
War. In one tax list,
the household of Samuel MULLINS was listed as having 2 'fpc' (free =
persons of color).
Morning and her sister, both born in VA, are buried in neighboring =
burial plots, with Sam
beside them, atop Newman's Ridge. The children of Sam and Mary (Gibson) =
MULLINS * were:

Needing, very badly, an obit, or other record showing the death of Matilda
Ann Carter, born 11-27-1831, Ky., died 1-27-1843, Owen Co In. She was
daughter of John CARTER Jr., wife Eliza NUTTERFEE. Probably would be in
Cloverdale, Spencer, or Greencastle papers, if they were printing at that
time. Lived north of Quincy.
Thanks very much.

Searching for parents of John CARTER, born 1-2-1813,in Ky.. died 2-27-1901,

1700's

Dear Brenda,
I don't know if there's any connection for you, but I found an Ohio Carter
while searching for my grandfather, Bentley Frederick Carter--who I still
haven't found. But the one I found was Benjamin F. Carter, b. April 1861 in
Ohio and married Hattie B. Turner on Dec. 15, 1883 in Madison Co., OH.
According to Michael Thornhill (michaelcthornhill(a)msn.com), Benjamin F. was
the 13th child of Fenton Mercer Carter and Sarah Margaret Carter. 11th
child was Stephen Douglas Carter. I had hoped that Benjamin F. might be my
Bentley Frederick, since both are in Atlanta in the late 19teens, but I've
pretty much ocnvinced myself that they're two different men. So my search
goes on. But if Benjamin F. or Stephen Douglas connect with your Jon or
Eldon, you might check the above source. Or--I have Benjamin F.'s children,
at least by that wife.
Good luck,
Katherine Kurtz-MacMillan
granddaughter of Bentley Frederick Carter (who must be an alien who dropped
onto the planet in November of 1919, in time to marry my grandmother, Alma
Irene Mulligan)

Our odd name is not so odd, but wonderfully different...
KETURAH Carter..... Keturah is from the Bible. and it sure
beats another Sarah or Elizabeth.
Keturah Carter... not much is known about her....it seems
that she was in Pittsyvannia Co., VA and married a Armstead
Blevins. They latter moved to KY and then on to Tenn. Armstead
Blevins was in the war of 1812 and faught along his son Hugh
Armstrong Blevins. Armstead either dies or disapears...or both.
And Keturah goes to Arkansas with some of her kids. Where she
dies..The name Keturah is passed on to one of their daughters.
Keturah Blevins. Both Keturahs used the nickname "Kittie".
If anyone knows anything of the KETURAH Carter....above
please contact me...

The odd name is my Carter line is "Ardalus." He moved from Loudoun County,
Virginia, to Adams County, Indiana in the early 1800's. Anyone ever run
across this before?
I am searching for a Clinton Carter who married a lady whos maiden name was Turner. They were in the Burkesville, Cumberland Co., KY area in 1880 and before. Their daughter, Alice Hannah Carter, was my gr-grandmother. She married Hiram Williams in Cumberland Co., KY in 1881. There was also a daughter named Amelia (Mela) Carter who married an Alfred Anderson in the same county in 1886. There were at least 2 other children, Jane and John, in this Carter family. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Dear Russell
I am looking into the Carters in Western Australia. I have John Grenville
Carter(England) married to Elizabeth Salmon. Their children were Anthony
George Carter, Harry Carter, Tom Carter, Albert Carter, Mary Carter, and
Dolly Carter. Mary and Dolly went to America(late 1899's early 1900's)One of
them married and became Mrs Barrel I dont know which one. Anthony married
Amy Dewy Olley and came to Australia(my g grandparents ).As far as I know
the other brothers Harry Tom and Albert also came to Australia , I am still
looking into their histories. Anthony had seven children,Ivy, Amy, John,
George, Stan, Kath and Annie.I have details of the next generation if anyone
is interested.
Cheers Donna from Kalgoorlie Western Australia.
