I am searching for the parentage of John J. Carter born abt 1832 in VA. I have located him on the 1970 census of Buckingham Co. VA. He married first Nancy E. Saunders and second to Annie E. Reynolds in Lynchburg VA in 1888. John J. had 10 children but I am not sure which were with what wife. Their names were: Dallas, Mildred, Lewis, Sidney, Bob, John, Betty, Charlie, Sally (Elizabeth?), and William Carrington Carter (my line).
William Carrington Carter (born abt 1852-1872) md. Sarah Frances Reynolds in 1891 in Roanoke VA and they had 11 children: Nellie, Robert, Annie, Iverson, Sarah, William, Lewis, Leathe, Esther, Frederick and Wellington Bateman Carter (my line).
Wellington Bateman Carter was born 1912 (not sure if it was in VA or MD) and died 1983 in Baltimore MD. Wellington married Leah Matilda Forbes and had 6 children all in Baltimore.
If anyone is researching any of these names, I'd like to exchange any info. Thanks,
Phyllis
Looking for Blanchard Drake Smith or Mary Seabrook Smith who entered DRAKE and CARTER information on Rootsweb.com. I think that we have several ancestors in common and I would like to correspond with you about them. There has been no response to the email address given on the rootsweb.com site. Please contact me. Thanks, Molly Pere
John CARTER was born 7 Jul 1730 in Lancaster Co., VA the son of Daniel and
Elizabeth Carter; grandson of Thomas and Arabella (Williamson) Carter; and
great-grandson of Thomas and Katherine (Dale) Carter.
John Carter married Sally Fleet (b.ca 1748/50 in Lancaster Co., VA) the
daughter of John and Mary (Edwards) Fleet; granddaughter of William and Ann
(Jones) Fleet; great-granddaughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Wildey) Fleet;
and great-great granddaughter of Henry Fleete, the founder of the Fleet
family in Virginia.
John Carter left Lancaster County and settled in western Virginia. Following
his death, his widow moved to the Rowan Co., NC area.
John and Sally (Fleet) Carter had only one known child to live to maturity, a
daughter, Sarah Carter (b.1770), who married Peter Presley.
I wish to correspond with anyone researching these families.

Hello,
I have just joined the list and should be very interested to hear from anyone with CARTERS from Dorset. My direct line is Lavinia CARTER born c.1852. She married Charles Henry PALMER [born 1847 Pimperne, Dorset] in Okeford F. in 1876. Her father and grandfather etc. were James CARTER married Sarah POPE c. 1842/ William CARTER married Jane SPENCER 1800/ James CARTER married Grace LAMBERT c.1777.
Regards
Sue Howes
David Mitchell Carter, Sr., born 5/10/? - died 1923, married Annie Lorraine
Gordon, born 3/29/? - died 2/10/1967, had a son David Mitchell Carter, Jr.,
born 3/22/1908 in Manitou, Oklahoma. If anyone has any info on these, I
would appreciate your assistance.
This is disappointing information indeed, especially since I never got to
Look at the site to begin with. Good Luck and let us Carter's know if you
do get to place the information elsewhere. Were you saying that they closed
it down for having Carter Census Information? That would be odd as I can go
to my local FHC and find the same information for free!!
*researching the only Carter that I have at this time:
Elizabeth Jane CARTER called "Lizzie" by family and friends, b.
12-Aug-1838 in Fountain County, Indiana. Married 1. James L. JOHNSON 2.
Scott S. ETHINGTON.
Lizzie's father was born in Ohio and mother in Pa.
Scott and Lizzie had 5 living children the oldest, Olive Susan ETHINGTON
b. 21-Sep-1863 in Illinois (probably Iroquois Co.) being my GGrandmother.
From Indiana, Scott and Lizzie migrated to Daviess County, Missouri and
by 1879 are in Atchison County, Kansas.
Elizabeth Jane Carter died 27-Dec-1916 and is buried alongside her
husband, Scott Ethington in the Neodesha, Wilson County, Kansas cemetery.
I would sure like to find parents and siblings of Elizabeth "Lizzie".
Thanks, Marie LC

Looking for any information someone might have on tax lists etc to show existence of a Peter Carter and family residing near West Branch of the Susquehanna River above Muncy Hill.
His name appears on a petition dated June 10, 1778. the PA State Archives does not have the document.

I am new to this list. I have in my family Thomas Drake son of William
Drake of Edgefield Co. S.C. Thomas Drake married a Sarah______?
(I have never known Sarah's last name. Thomas and Sarah lived in Burke
Co. Ga when he made his will in 1794 naming a son Francis.Early, Lemuel
Braxton and Theney and his wife Sarah as heirs. I have just received a
mailing that Thomas Carter had a daughter Sarah Carter B. 1773 ?
in Edgefield Co S. C. Can some one tell me is this my Sarah?

Folks,
Late last night, I found that Tripod.com had closed the Carter Web Site. Why?
I don't have a clue! Apparently, someone complained to Tripod that the site
wasn't following the rules. I left several emails at Tripod.com but I doubt they
will respond. Apparently, if they decide to close you, you don't have any
recourse: like to make things right before they shut you down.
I have several theories about the reason but will not speculate until or if I
hear form Tripod.
Unfortunately, I do not have a quick and ready backup of the site. I hope to
download the current site to another URL asap if allowed to do so.
If not, I'm afraid that the site will remain closed. Thanks for your support
in the past , and I still salute the CARTER researchers who made this possible by
manually searching the US census records (public records by the way) for Carters.
The site had almost 5000 hits in the 2 years of operation. I hope all enjoyed it.
Thanks!

Hello:
I am new to this list and I'm trying to help a friend trace her husband's
Carttar roots. Anyone out there been researching this name?
We have traced the line back to:
John C. Carttar b. May 22, 1786 (not proven), d. Sept 10 1839 (not proven)
married Margaret Zane b. Feb 3, 1790 (probably NJ)
Don't know where John was born. Could be NJ.
His children:
Rebecka b. 1809 d. 1823
Mary Ann - Twin b. 1811
Sarah Chew - Twin b. 1811 d. 1813
John Maxwell b. 1817 in NJ d. 1886 in Kansas
William b. 1819 d. 1836
Margaret b. 1821
Abigal Ann b. 1824 d. 1858
Hannah b. 1827
Samuel F. b. 1831 d. 1886
Eliabeth N. b. 1834 d. 1837
Does this family sound familiar to anyone.
John Maxwell Carttar ended up in Kansas with his family. He married Abashaba
Edwards, b. 1816 in NJ.
Any leads or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Under that definition, a Certified Geneologist commits fraud by advertising
in any Geneology magazine. They probably won't find anything you can't find
yourself. The difference is that you are either not in the proper place,
can't spend the time, or just too lazy to look (Guilty). Sooooo - you pay to
have it done. What's the difference?
