I have quite alot of information about a certain Carter family that ended up in Flint, Texas. Elijah Milburn Carter ( my gggrandfather) married Lucretia Attwood. They and three children moved to Flint in 1850. They then had other children. I do not have a Geore Gordon Carter but I have a couple George's without middle names or initials. It would be helpful if you would give me dates . David

Hello all!
Advanced apologies if you recieve this more than once...I am posting to
multiple lists. I am searching for the aformentioned in Cookeville, Putman
Co. and possibly Carthage, Smith Co. Listed below are details of each person.
James Henry Carney, my g-grandfather (Son of Matthew?? Carney) It is
possible that he left home at a early age possibly before 14.
b. June 24, 1885 (Tennessee)
d. October 27, 1957 (Nashville, Davidson, Co. Tennessee)
m. Earnest Carter (Daughter of Bud "Puddles" Carter and Susan Mary Unknown)
b. April 5, 1885 (Tennessee)
d. September 24, 1977 (Huntsville, Madison Co. Alabama)
I have found Earnest with her parents and four of eight siblings
(three of which were living at this time) on the 1900 Jackson Co.
TN Census.
Through oral histories of living decendants James and Earnest probably
married in Carthage, Smith Co. TN before moving to Nashville. They had
nine children that survived beyond infancy.
Woodford Matthew, Otis Lee, William Lawrence, Willis Gerstle, James
Burton, Alfred Farris, Jewel Earnestine, Mary Gladys, and Lee Farris.
Emma Carney (daughter of Matthew?? Carney)
I have very limited knowledge of Emma. I know that she married a Lemmons
and believe that more than likely she was living in Cookville, according to
oral history. It is believed that her husband died before 1926.
Searching for any information including parents, dates, family, anything! I
have additional information if anyone is interested.

Charles Wm. Carter was born July 10th, 1896 in SanFrancisco, Ca. He had a brother (Wilbur) born in about 1894. They were both orphaned as very small children. Charles was sent back to Cincinnati, Ohio to be raised by an aunt and uncle (names unknown). Wilbur was sent else where to be raised by other relatives (place and names unknown) . The brothers never heard from one another again.. I have found a Wilbur Carter who lived and died in Hamilton, Butler County, Ohio. He was born in 1894 and died in 1980. I'm researching Wilbur but no good info yet. I need someone to search the Cincinnati public school records for Charles. I should add that Charles was my father. One peculiarity, my Mother , myself, my brother are all definately caucasion. My father ,however, despite having fairly light skin, had many Afro-American characteristics and there is the possibility he may have been "passing". Therfore, when searching school records, one should check both black and whit!

Hi Carter Lists,
This is my first time to be on the Carter's List. I hope that to be here, I might find my connection. I do not have alota information on my great grandfather, John Henry Carter and it is my desired to know his roots. Here what I know.
John Henry Carter, born August 26, 1869 in unknown county in Illinois to William and Sarah Carter. I do not for sure how many children William and Sarah had. But the family said there were Sam Carter, Alfred Carter, Elnso Carter, Ellie T. Carter and John Henry Carter. I only know just his birthday.
John Henry Carter had married to Mary Alice Souther in 1891 in Illinois. I have ordered the marriage license from Saline County in Illinois. This what it said:
Mr. Henry Carter of Tate Township in the County of Saline and State of Illinois of the age of 20 years, and Miss M.A. Souther of Tate in the Saline County in Illinois of the age of 16 years, the Father and Mother of the said parties having given their's assent to said marriage.
CONSENT OF PARENT OR GUARDIAN TO MARRIAGE OF MINOR:
Please issue license for M.A. Souther. Signed by H.J. Souther and Martha A. Souther. Pinkneyville, Illinois January 23, 1891. Henry, I have no objections whatever give Henry Carter his License. Signed by Mrs. Sarah C. Kelley to Henry Carter.
REGISTER OF MARRIAGES:
By whom consent to Marriage given: Sarah C. Kelley
Full Name of Groom: Henry Carter, Tate Township, Farmer.
Age next birthday, 21 years; Race-white; Place of Birth: Illinois.
Father's Name: Douglas Carter
Mother's Maiden Name: Vantrease
Witnesses: J.R. Carter and Frances Hale
Well, here I had thought that John Henry Carter's father is William and Sarah Carter. But it show that it is Douglas Carter. So his mother must have been remarried again to be Mrs. Sarah C. Kelley.
John Henry Carter and Mary Alice Souther have 7 children:
1) Omar Carter, born Nov. 17, 1892 in Illinois.
2) Blanch Carter, born 1894 in Illinois.
3) Charlie Carter, born Feb. 13, 1896 in Illinois.
4) Viva Carter, born 1898 in Illinois.
5) Virgina Carter, born 1899
6) Beulah Carter, born Jan. 4, 1901 in Anna, Texas. (My Granny)
7) Clara Bell Carter, born 1905 in Anna, Texas.
8) Buster Carter, born Sept. 16, 1908 in Anna, Texas.
My great grandfather, John Henry Carter is buried in Center Hill Cemetery in Folsom, Oklahoma. I do not know his death date yet. But soon I will go to the cemetery one of the days.
I hope there is somebody that know John Henry Carter, his siblings, his parents. Please help me to know my roots and lineage of the Carter's. Thank you for reading this, and I know this is a long letter, so forgive me, but I do not know where else to turn to, but to Carter's Lists. Teresa Young from Oklahoma

Hello Lewis,
Thanks for telling me about the records that you
have on a Thomas Carter who served in the C.W.
I do not find any mention of my line ever having
lived in Ky. They were from Cass (now Bartow)
County, Georgia. I probably should not mention
this on the Carter site but I have Dentons in my
line. Write to me at lmw2(a)att.net if you are from
Richard Dentons line.
Lola
Hello Deb,
Thanks for sending the roster of the Civil War
units from Arkansas that lists a Thomas Carter. I will do some research
using this information. This
really helps a lot.
Lola
Richard,
You have some of the same names that I have in
your line but the birth dates are different. My Carters
left Cass (now Bartow) County and were in Conway
County, Arkansas by 1860. I do not have a Charles
Carter listed in my line. Good luck in your search
and thanks for writing.
Lola
Am searching for information concerning the above.
Jesse Carter married Jane "Jinsy" Hurt, b. ca.1800 in Surry Co., SC, d.
after 1870 in Upshur Co., TX.
Does anyone make a connection here?
Thanks,
Jaunice York
