The below information is possibly seriously flawed. First, the Joseph
Carter who died in Spotsylvania in 1751 (I put three * beside him), WAS
NOT NECESSARILY the son of William Carter of Middlesex. Many believe (in
fact the mainstream) he was the son of CPT Thomas Carter Jr. Next,
there is a great controversy as to if this Joseph Carter married
Catherine AMMONS or Catherine STEVENS (as Dr. Miller said).
It is possible William of Middlesex had a Joseph who married a Catherine
Ammons, but it wouldn't have been this Joseph..
This great controversy over the Josephs has never been settled by Carter
scholars and definitely could cause descendants of Joseph Carter of
Spotsylvania confusion.
Elby Bowman in 1978 argued the Joseph of SPotsylvania who died in 1751
married Catherine Ammons and was the son of William. Paul Carter, in a
book on his site on the subject, seems to support Dr. Millers claim that
Joseph was the son of CPT Thomas Carter Jr.
There was a Joseph Carter who married a Catherine Ammons - but scholars
just aren't sure if this Joseph became the Joseph who died in
SPotsylvania in 1751.
There is more on this argument in a book by Elby Bowman - some of the
narrative is at Paul Carter's site http://members.aol.com/rarebk

Hello List,
I just joined this list. Looking for any information on my
ggrandmother, Mary Arnold. Think her maided name was Carter. In 1866
she married a John M. Presley in Tennessee. At that time she had two
children - Benjamin (my grandfather) and Maggie from the first marriage.
Would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance...Ray Presley
I've just started doing genealogy and came across this list. I'm hoping
somebody can help me quickly.
My grandfather, Robert Cornelius Carter, was recently diagnosed with cancer,
and told he has 5-6 weeks. I've talked with him about his ancestors, and
he's interested in learning more (as am I).
I've found quite a bit in a short amount of time, but am now stuck. He's not
able to help a great deal because he didn't know is family well. When he was
six, he and his 3 siblings were placed in the Soldier's Orphan's Home at
Normal, IL.
Below is the family that I know of, starting with his Great Grandfather.
I'd greatly appreciate any clues that can be provided. Time is of the
essence.
Thanks,
Jason Carter

The Public Library of Des Moines has been putting the daily obits into a file
for quite a few years and they are on their web site. Remember this is not
the Obituary itself, but a listing of what day and what paper the obituary
was in the paper. It gives the name of the paper (Des Moines Register or Des
Moines Tribune), the date, the page and the column number. Here are the
range of dates -- not all are on because they have been working with grant
money to input the older papers and when the grant money runs out they stop
until they are able to get another grant.
Des Moines Register has 1974 to present.
Des Moines Tribune has 1907-1944 (random dates and obits); 1974 - 1982.
The Des Moines Tribune quit publication in 1982 and Des Moines now only has
the Register as their daily paper.

On the 1810 Ky Census, there was one John Carter listed in each of the
listed counties.
These were the only John Carters in Ky in 1810. One of them had at least 2
sons, John and JOB, who was "deaf and dumb". Does anyone have any
information of such a combination John, with sons John and a Deaf JOB? Any
information appreciated.

WILLIAM CARTER was born 1751 in Frederick County, Virginia, and died
1835 in Bracken County, Kentucky. He married ELEANOR (?).
Wiley records indicate William moved from Washington Co Pa. to Bracken
Co. Ky in about 1789, along with many other families, including the John
Wiley family.
Another source on the internet indicates William died before 1790.
Fought in Revolutionary War. Occording to orphan records he had no son
named Joseph but in old family records William was Joseph's father. Does
anyone have any information on this line?
Children of WILLIAM CARTER and ELEANOR are:

Solomon CARTER
Rebecca CARTER
Susan CARTER

JOSEPH CARTER (WILLIAM1) was born 1784. He married SUSAN WILEY.

Let's try this again with a new lead... Seeking ancestors of Wesley D.
Carter, b. 1804 in SC. Thinking his father might possibly be Hiram
Carter, who shows up in 1833 Barbour Co. AL census as Head of Household
with an
older family. Wesley settled in neighboring Dale County, AL. His spouse
was Rachel, b. 1814 in GA. Children were Lemuel, Emily A., Emanuel A.,
Leonard, Edaline, and Lenia. All children b. in AL betw. 1834 and 1852.
There's also a Hiram Carter Jr. in 1840 Pike Co., AL census, and a Hiram
Carter 1830 Pulaski Co., GA census. Beyond Hiram, there could be Lamuel
Carter, who is in the 1830 Colleton Co., SC census --Hiram's father?
Wesley's father? Hiram's brother? Any information, either to prove or
disprove relationship of Hiram to Wesley (or Lamuel to Wesley), deeply
appreciated. Thank you again, List. This is a tough one for me.
Hi Carter Cousins, Looks like I am wanted by someone or for something.
That is a switch, I am usually looking for those "wanted". I take
someone is looking for info on James Carter of Pa. If I can help you,
what is it you need. I changed my server. Also, thought it nice not to
have my name out there !!!!!Linda L.
William Noah Carter was born 9 October, 1899 in Somerset,Pulaski County,
Kentucky. His parents were Daniel Carter and Janie Roark. Siblings were:
Athie m. Unknown Jent; Myrtle b. 14 June, 1888; and Alma b. 1 November, 1900
m. Levie Guy Stinson. Maggie Stinson, their daughter, was born about
1920.
The family later moved to Macon County, Tennessee. William Noah married
Queen Victoria Swindle, daughter of Jobe Anderson Swindle and Ara Butrum, in
the Red Boiling Springs area of Macon County Tennessee.
Alma died in Allen County, Tennessee. "Noah" died in Witchita Falls, Texas
and is buried in Decatur, Macon County, Illinois.
Does anyone know of this family? Thank you.
