Jack,
Thank you for responding. I still do not find a Joel or a
Jabez in this line that you sent me. These Carters are
centered in SC and GA and mine are in VA and KY. Perhaps I
am just missing something. If you are the one looking for a
Hardy Carter, I see one listed on page 16 of this Carter
Line.
Thank you.
Sheila

Dear Lister Cousins,
I have been studying the old migration routes and verified that many
Carters in District 96 went to both central Indiana and SoCentral Illinois.
Mine went to the very old Washington Co., ILL. This area has wonderful
documentation of soldier rosters which have supported my "hypothesis" of my
family. Perhapys when yours "disapeared" they hoopped a wagon train west for
VERY rich farm land. Many even continued to Salt Lake City(not mine) and
Washington state.
Anyway, I see the old family names repeated after moving in honor of
relatives left behind. I just expanded my line 3 gens. Starting with my
father we go like this: Harold E>Norval E>Martha J>Joel
A(b1815-20-d1872)>Richard P(the mover)>Richard P>Robert>John. There are other
cousins of ours on the net, too.
I will send my support info if this sounds like yours.
Possible Cuz,
Sharon Carter L.

I was looking through the LDS family search files for my Richard Carter
family . When I came across them , it was all mixed up according to the
records that I have; not just for that family but generations preceding him.
Richard CARTER was my grandmother's grandfather and I don't believe that
she could have been that wrong about that family since the children were
her aunts and uncles. She lived and knew these people. I don't know how
these records can ever be straightened out but it made me sad that they are
in such a mess.
I don't know if anyone else is researching this family . I am new to this
list, but I would be interested in hearing from you .

Jodie,
Your Carter line is not the only one mixed up. My Carters
are from VA to KY and everything seems backward on the
Family Search site from what I know to be true. I'm not
sure how to correct it. The submitter does not respond to
letters and there is no email. Do you think they would
correct the information if we contacted Family Search?

I have a few forms from Family Search on "Correcting Information in Ancestral
File" They state in one of their boxes --
Methods for Correcting Information in Ancestral File
You can submit corrections to Ancestral File in one of three ways:
.With the Ancestral File Edit feather F3
. With Personal Ancestral File 3.0 (You will need to use the Corrected option
when you select the records to submit). See page 9 for more detailed
instructions.
. On paper. See page9 for instructions
IMPORTANT! You must mail all of your corrections, whether they are on paper
or disk, to the Family History Department.
Since I am assuming that most of us don't have Ancestral File (or we would
have made corrections all along) I will send what they say for - On paper --
SUBMITTING CORRECTIONS ON PAPER
You can also submit any of your corrections on paper. The following
corrections must be submitted on paper:
.Correction information about a person who was born before the year A.D. 1500.
.Changing the name and address of a person shown on the History of Changes
list.
.Changing the sex code for an individual who is a spouse or parent in a
family.
If you want to submit death, burial, or LDS baptism informatiom for a person
whose record contains the word LIVING instead of the name, it is recommended
that you do so on paper.
To submit corrections on paper:
1. Print the appropriate Individual Records, Family Group Records, Pedigree
Charts, or History of Changes from Ancestral File. Be sure the printouts
show the individuals' Ancestral File numbers.
NOTE: You need to print only one report for each individual or fammily
you are correcting. For example, if you need to correct information about an
individual, print only the individual record. When the Family History
Department puts your correction into Ancestral File, the correct information
will appear automatically anywhere that individual is shown, including the
Individual Record, Pedigre, and Family Group.
2. Write the corrections on the printout, or include a separate family group
record that contains the correct information.
3. Write your name and full mailing address on each page.
4. Write a source or reason for each change.
6. Mail the printouts to the address shown ---
Address is:
Family History Department
ATTN: Ancestral File Corrections
50 East North Temple Street
Salt Lake City,UT 84150-3400
USA
Anoter note shown is:
Corrections that cannot be made:
Ancestral File will not make your corrections if:
.The file contains GEDCOM errors.
.The corrector's name and complete address are missing.
.The correction does not have a source.
There is also a chart on what types of corrections can be made, but they seem
to cover almost everything that I can think of -- even removing individuals
from one family and linking them to another ---
Hope this helps those of us who want to correct the LDS files -- I am in the
processing of formating some corrections on my family lines to send in also.

Someone told me that CARRIHER was one variation of CARTER or CARRIER.
Can anyone tell me what national background CARRIHER would indicate?
Could it be Scotch-Irish?
CHARLES J. CARTER 1835 Orange Co. NY
I am looking for the parents of Charles J.Carter of Slate Hill, NY, married
Susan Matilda Wood, b. 1846. Marriage date: July 29, 1959 in Slate Hill.
The children of Charles and Susan are:
Ida S. Carter b. 1860
John W. Carter b. 1863
Charles Stephen Carter b. 1865
Curtis M. Carter b. 1865
Richard H. Carter b. 1867/8
Susie M. Carter b. 1871
Any information on this line of Carters would be greatly appreciated.

Look for data on the following: Can anyone help? I have the Carter
Families of Hancock County and could not find anything. I believe they
might be related, because my father was born at 812 Middle Street and he
was the son of OLIVER ALLEN CARTER born in Etna, Maine. OLIVER ALLEN
CARTER and his ancestors are listed in that book. I would like to find
out if they are why my grandfather moved to Bath.
CHARLES M. CARTER located in Bath, Sagadahoc County, Maine
in the years 1867, 1868, 1871, 1872, 1888
Residence in 1867 thru 1872 listed as Centre St near Allen St or
near Walker St
Records show him a hostler.
In 1888 I found a CHARLES F. CARTER hackdriver boarding with C.M. CARTER
In 1897 LUCY A. CARTER is listed as his widow and a laundress
living at 816 Middle St with a WILLIAM H. CARTER hackdriver
I am assuming William H. Carter is Lucy A. Carter's and Charles M.
Carter's son.
In 1888 I also found a CHRISTOPHER O. CARTER master mariner living
on Green St corner of Lincoln St.
