NOTE: Jeremiah Carter and his wife Mary, immigrated to Pennsylvania

Published sources appear to be about equally split regarding the date.
Their first child, Lydia, was born in Pennsylvania.

Hi,
A few days ago, when Barb Blossom was working on the line of Joseph CARTER and
Margaret CLOUD we found a Jeremiah CLOUD, early immigrant, who was connected
to this line.
A very nice woman in Alaska, who has extensive material, sent me a great deal
of information on Jeremiah's line and I'm going to forward all of it hoping it
will help link many Carter families back to that Chester Co. PA origin.

Dear Connie,
First of all, you asked about females named Cloud and Brown who I know
are connected to my Carters. Yes!
CLOUD
Margaret Cloud married Joseph Carter (17 Nov 1749-2 Feb 1830). I don't
have her dates but her father was Robert Cloud and her mother was
Madaline ?. I also do not have dates on them. This Margaret was the
one Joseph "consorted" with which got him "read out" of the Quaker
faith.
BROWN
Rachel Brown of West Nottingham, PA (b. Abt. 1734) married Jeremiah
Carter (b. Abt. 1734) of Chester, PA. This Jeremiah was the son of
Nineveh and Nineveh was the son of the original Jeremiah who immigrated
in 1682 or 1689.
Esther-Ann Brown married Abraham Carter (12 July 1776-
23 Apr 1859). Her father was John Brown and her mother was Eliz. ? .
They were married on 1 Nov 1849 but I do not have her date of birth.
-------------------
The above Abraham is not the son of the original Jeremiah as that one
was born 1 July 1700(?) and died in 1789. There were a lot of name
repetitions in my Carters.
Yes, I have the lineage of Abraham and his various spouses and lineage.
It is long so I'll put it in a separate post as I'll have to type it.
I'm not going to write out all the full dates. If you find anything
interesting, let me know and I'll provide details as I know them.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Irene Rutter

Forgive me, but were the CARTER names extracted from Missouri Census Index
records and posted on the CARTER-L? I thought I had saved all the census
indices and can't find any for MO.

I am new to this list. I am searching for the following family group:
Father of family is supposed to be John Carter.
The known children are:
1. Elvira (Elva or Elvy) CARTER, born in Virginia about 1798. She
married Zachariah LAMAR in early 1820's in Tennessee. They lived in
Blount County, TN where Elvira died in the mid 1860's. Many of the Lamar
children went to Hood County, Texas in 1870 where Elvira's sister lived.
2. Sarah Elizabeth CARTER, born in Virginia about 1801. She married Amon
BOND in Blount County, TN in about 1820. The family went to McMinn
County, TN and then to Hood County, Texas in about 1854.
3. Edmund CARTER, born about 1815. He lived with his sister, Sarah in
the 1840-1850 Census and then with his niece in 1860 Census in Hood
County, Texas. He served in the Confederate Army from Hood County.
4? I believe they may have had a sister named Frances, called Frankie,
born in Virginia Mar 1 1800 and married Thomas MONTGOMERY in Blount
County, TN in 1826. The Montgomery family appears to have moved to
Arkansas and then Missouri where Frankie died in Newton County in 1873.
Any help with this family will be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for my g-g/m, Mary Ema/Emer CARTER, b. 1 Apr 1854, md. John
Jefferson TEEL, 1870-1875, d. 28 Oct 1941. She and John J. TEEL lived
in TN during the late 1800's, where all their children were born, and
moved to NM via TX around the turn of the century. John died in Clovis,
NM, 2 Feb 1907, and Mary E. moved back to TX where most of her children
were living. She died and is buried "somewhere around Commerce", Hunt
Co., TX. Her son, Chester Windfield TEEL was my g/f.
Would appreciate any info anyone may have. I have been searching for
her and John for over 20 years with no luck whatsoever.

Item Number16043913861210
Location Turners Falls, MA
Item Studio portrait
Price postage
Item date ca: 1900?
Item condition Excellent condition, with two very small spots on the
mounting card.
Item content Picture of a young man, probably in his twenties. Written on
back: Alfred Carter, husband of Aunt Eva (Eva Jamison)
I'm still hunting the elusive Carters. I now have James William
Carter's death certificate, signed by Walter Godkin, Spicewood Ranch,
Pipe Creek, TX: Died July 25, 1924, of Arteriosclerosis and apoplexy,
b. Aug 2 1853, MO. His parents were Joseph Henry, b. Iowa, and
Jules/julie? Luckett, b. MO
In a search of Census records and Land Grants, I find a Joseph H
Carter in Cass Co MO (just south of Kansas City) starting in 1850 and
in 1860 at Big Creek. James was b. in MO 1853. There is an 1854 land
grant in Cass Co for Joseph Henry. This is most probably my family.
My Dad says that there was an Uncle Richard-not sure which
generation, James or his father, Joseph. There is a Richard Carter found in Clay
Co MO, just north of Kansas City, with Land Grants starting in 1843,
1844, 1846, and 1848. He is found in the Clay Co Census starting in
1840 and is found there through 1860 at Fishing River.
This has been a difficult line to follow.
There were supposedly 6 brothers-3 Union and 3 Confederate. Most
interestingly, James md. Jennie Franklin. There is family myth that
her aunt or sister married into a family of outlaws- the "Franklin Brothers" bank
robbers. I can find NO such outlaw. However, I have found that the
"Uncle Richard" in Clay Co, MO, is the home county of the infamous Jesse
and Franklin James. They rode with "Quantrill's Raiders" in the Confederacy.
There was a Harrison Carter listed with both the James Gang and the Raiders.
I am so confused. Can anyone shed light on this elusive branch?

Hi Carter Cousins,
Well, I think I'm caught up now to finish posting what data I have up
to 1820.
The following states were added:

Remember to check out the Site Status Table to see where the census
work is being done and what needs to be done. Volunteers gratefuly
