Dear Carters,
I'm looking for someone with PA Carters in their background in the
hopes that they have a family Bible (which they at one time did, I'm
told).
So if anyone, probably in the Richmond. VA area, knows anything
about these CARTERs, please get in touch with me:
DANIEL CARTER m. Nancy BLACK
WILLIAM HALL CARTER
MADGE CARTER THOMPSON
Hopefully,
BarbaraCB
Thomas Carter, born probably 1690s, possibly CT or MA, married 1718 anna
margaretha DORNER in eastern NY, near MA border.
Can anyone suggest a New England (or NY) CARTER family having children
during the 1680s and/or 1690s to whom this Thomas might belong?
Thank you,
Graham Louer

I can't help you with (Irish) but I am very interested in your line. Jirah
is such an unusual name. I have CARTER ancestors in IA and all of the
evidence I have found to date points back to Jirah CARTER and Desire BATES

much like to hear more from you on your line. Thank you. Nancy CARTER

Hi All,
I would like any information on the Carter family of
Southern Illinois. My gg-grandfather was Robert
CARTER, m. Louisa Jane TOLER MONTGOMERY. Robert's
father was George CARTER, m. Nancy/Mary PIPKINS.
George moved his family from (unknown county)
Tennessee to Illinois after 1832. Robert shows up on
the 1860 US Census for Union Co., IL. This family also
lived in Johnson Co., IL. Roberts siblings are:
LeGrand, Rachel, Mary E., Edward, and James/Jim
CARTER. Let me know if any of these people sound
familiar.

Has anyone a similar experience with nicknames -- I've recently discovered
an
ancestor through a tombstone (headstone) inscription located in Woodbury
County, Iowa, USA, which was written:
Jirah (Irish) Carter
This person was born c. 1800 and I understand that "Jirah" is an old Biblical
name. Can anyone shed light on why "Irish" would be written in parenthese?
I am guessing that this man went by the nickname of "Irish" because he came
from Ireland.....? Is there perhaps another reason he might be called
this? Any additional thoughts on the subject would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance,

Thanks for answering my inquiry. I will keep on pluging. If you ever run into the name Featherstone Carter, please contact me. I use my Grandpa's brother's name because it is unusual. There are hundreds of William John Carters and Featherstone is not a name easily forgotten. Thanks again for responding.

Nancy Carter,
I am holding my breath. My G-Grandfather was William J. Carter, a brickmason from Alabama. His wife is believed to be Susan Francis Roseman. I have no information as to birth dates or marriage dates, but they were living in Trinity County, Texas in 1860. I do not know what became of them after this date, but they left, leaving two children behind; with Susan's younger sister, Tobitha Jane Roseman and her husband, Jonathan Arnold. The children were; Fetherstone Carter b. 1857 Miss. and William (Willie?) John Carter (poss. a Jr.).Could your Willie be my Grandfather; b. Jan. 20, 1863 - somewhere in Tx. d. April 11, 1927- Port Arthur, Texas, Jefferson County. Married 1833-34 to Sis McBee. Do you think there is a connection to your Carters? The Arnolds raised my Grandpa Carter and his brother, Featherstone. The dissapearence of my G-Grandfather has left my family tree with few limbs!
Hoping we are cousins
