Hello:
I am looking for information on the family of Charles Carter of Oglethorpe
County, GA. His Will was probated in July 1842. There are two sons listed:
Edward and Robert G. Carter. These Carters are tied up with the Whitehead,
Sims, and Graham families. My great, great grandfather was Eli Carter. I
believe him to be the son of Edward Carter. Eli married Catherine Harwell
on November 24, 1838. She apparently died because he married Mary Ann
Graham on September 21, 1840. They moved to DeSoto County, MS shortly after
1844. I would appreciate any help you can give me. I am always looking for
old records and stories of my families. Thanks
Margaret

Hi:
For many Webb descendents of the following line, one of the foundations of
their ancestry rests on the union of a John Webb b ca 1690, Va and Hannah
Carter b ca 1696.
John died Apr 27, 1736 in Henrico Co, Va where his will was probated. Hannah
is presumed to have died before 1736 as she is not mentioned in his will.
Three of the four witnesses to the will were: Theorick Carter, Thomas
Carter, John Carter.
Hannah's parentage said be Theodorick Carter and Elizabeth ? (some have
Elizabeth Randall Webb; others have Elizabeth Williamson?; others just
Elizabeth ?) Theodorick Carter b ca 1699 Henrico Co, VA; died 1737 in
Varina, Henrico Co, VA where his will was probated. Elizabeth's was probated
in 1751. I have no info on either will as to who is named.
Now the issue at hand:
Several descendents of this Theodorick Carter do NOT list a Hannah Carter as
a daughter, saying that the known children were: Theodorick, John, Anne,
Susannah, Martha, Mary, & Elizabeth.
Of course, others of the John Webb & Hannah Carter lineage dispute this,
saying that Hannah was indeed child of Theodorick & Elizabeth Carter.
So - I'm asking does anyone know for sure, one way or the other, which is
correct? And if you do have an opinion/conjecture/etc., would you please
indicate what it is based on (records/documentation,etc). I am trying to
work my way backwards, generation by generation, through my Webb ancestry.
And have seen so much mis-information, lack of documentation, and conjecture,
it can be very confusing!! Such as the Col. James Crews theory ie father of
Hannah Crews who married Giles Carter, parents of above Theodorick Carter
(said to be later disproven by some researchers through court records in
Henrico Co.)
I would very much appreciate any help, ideas, suggestions - anything!
Below I've also listed (for those who might be interested) the children of
John Webb & Hannah Carter, as shown by many Webb descendents. thanks,
Gloria

Am looking for additional information on the father and mother of Robert
Franklin Carter, who is my grandfather. Robert died in Savannah, Ga in Oct.
1933, and I'm trying to locate information on his parents and lineage. His
wife (my grandmother) was named Lula Elizabeth Wells Carter, the daughter of
Columbus Wells and her mother was a Groover. They are purportedly from the
Bryan and/or Liberty County areas around Savannah and my sisters say there's
some thought they lived in or near the Kings Ferry area of Chatham County.
Any information would be appreciated.

Can anyone help? I recently got a sample copy of the Appalachian

Sutton. Does anyone know of this book? Any reviews would be greatly

I hope someone can help me locate a person.
I was looking at the new website for the Rootsweb gedcom's and I found a listing
for an ANCIL CARTER, son of ALBERT CARTER.
I stop for a moment to look elsewhere and when going back to save the name was gone.
I am a descendant of EVERETT EARL CARTER, father of Albert Carter and would be most interested in exchanging info with you. I descend from HERSCHEL CARTER, brother of Albert.

DIED
_____on the 26th of April, near this place, in the 72d year of her age,
Mrs. Sarah Carter, consort of Mr. George Carter, Sen'r. Through her
pilgrimage of life, there was none in the circle of her acquaintance
more esteemed than she. Her examples as a mother of a numerous offspring
were surpassed by none; she was kind and affectionate to the distressed.
And when death, the king of terrors, summoned her from her earthly
tabernacle, she was enabled to say, "death where is thy sting, Oh! grave
where is thy victory." The writer of this knew the deceased some time
previous to her death.
