Hello to Carter Land, We need help in determining the parentage of our
ancestor. Have 2 questions:
1. Was Green B. Carter Sr. born 1798 MS, the father of James Carter b.
1815 NC ?
2. If so, who was Green B. Carter Srs wife/mother of James ?
This is what we know:
1. Green B. Carter Sr. witnessed the marriage bond of James Carter 1836
in
Hardeman County, TN
2. Green B. Carter Sr. married Nancy Ann Crew (Cruse) 1839 in Hardeman
County
TN, this was obviously his second marriage and Nancy was not the mother
of
James.
Thanks for help.

Dear Charles,
I have been an active genealogist since 1986 but never have seen another
"Erastus Carter" before now. Thank you for using this media. My paternal
grandfather's name was NORVAL ERASTUS CARTER b Apr 1, 1986 in Bluford, IL m Mar
13, 1914 in Clarion, IA and d Jan 22, 1963 in Evergreen Cem.Clarion, IA. He
took his mother's surname when his father died with three other men while
either falling out of a tree or "falling a tree". Mother was Martha Jane
(Carter) MIDDLETON b Nov 1, 1859, Mt Carmel, IL m 1889 to Larner Middleton
and had a fam of 6 more ch. She d Apr 17, 1902. All of them in Bluford are at
Black Oak Ridge Cem, BUFORD with her parents: Joel A,. CARTER and Mary
(Polly)(COLE). Her parents are as far back as we can ever get in his line he
waw b 1815. The father's line disappeared into history. 1850 census says
Joel and Mary were b in Tenn but it was news to decendants until about 1984!
Norval Erastus' step father treated him badly so he was raised by kindly
childless Unc James and Aunt Anna, then shipped off to Indian country in rural
Clarion, IA(North Central). He worked hard, didn't marry till he was 27 to
Kate Jane Brooks, and had 14 children. He worked 30 years for the CB&Q.
Interesting life and talents. My father is his oldest son. There are hundreds
hoping to some day find Joel's kin and heritage.
If you need more accurate dates, let me know.
Sincerely, Sharon Carter Lengfellner, Jacksonville

Hello to everyone in Carter Land:
I want to know : Who was the father of James Carter, b. 4/22/1815 in
NC.
What I know:
James Carter married Salina R. Dean April 27, 1836 in Hardeman County
TN. Green B. Carter witnessed the bond and marriage.
James and Salina Carter lived in Tippah County MS and had 6 children
1837-50,: William/1837, Robert/1841, Mary/1844, Sarah/1846, Amanda/1849
and Emily/1850.
James and Salina Carter moved to Travis County Texas between 1850-54 and
had 2 more children: John Bruce Carter/1854 and Miranda/1859.
James and Salina Carter were living in Webberville, Tx in 1860. James
was a wagoneer. We found them in Travis County Texas Census 1870, 1880.
James Carter died 7/15/1892 in Mcclennon, TX. His wife Salina, died
3/10/1903 in McClennon, TX.
Speculation: Was Green B. Carter Sr. b. 1798-1800 TN, the father of
James Carter ?
James & Salina Carters descendants number over 600. One descendant is
well known in Texas History and is associated with Stephen F. Austin.
We will be happy to share information.

Hi Everyone,
Been new to the list for about a week now,but am just getting around to
introducing my family.
My mother was Catherine Carter Duffy,b.B'klyn,N.Y.1922.
Parents were Cornelius Carter,b.B'Klyn,N.Y. 1876 and Catherine
McNeil,b.B'Klyn,N.Y.1882.
They had 8 other
children:Henry,George,Edward,Francis,Margaret,James,Cornelius and Alice.
Cornelius' parents were Henry Carter,b.1847,Calcutta,India and Margaret
Murphy,b.1848,Ireland.Cornelius also had a brother,Edward,who in turn had a
daughter,Elizabeth and a son(?)
Henry's parents were Edward Carter,b1825,West Indies and Elizabeth
Maloney,b.1825,Ireland
>From what I've been told, the family has a long history of service in the
British Army ,which accounts for the birth places of both Henry and Edward.
In order to find out more about Edward,I decided to find Henry's birth
records.India does not have birth records, per se,just church records.I found
out through LDS that he was baptized and I have ordered a copy of these
records, hoping they will list what regiment his father was in.I feel I can't
go on much more, since I don't know what island in the W.Indies Edward was born
in.I have a copy of Henry's death certificate which lists his parents birth
places.
If anyone thinks they may know anything about my family,or if you have any
suggestions on what else I can do,I'd appreciate hearing from you.Thanks.

I have posted this before but I guess it never hurts to try again since there
seems to be a lot of new subscribers.
I am looking for the parents of Tolbert Carter. He was born in Morgan County,
Illinois, on March 6, 1825. He is the son of John and Catherine (Barrett)
Carter. I only know that both John and Catherine (Caty) died in 1842 in Holt
County, Missouri. Tolbert went west in 1846 with his brother Linville
(Smiley). I know lots about them but nothing about their parents. I have a
possible marriage in Nelson County, Kentucky in 1803.
Any help would be appreciated.

Good morning,
I have recently posted the 1820, 1830, and 1840 Georgia Census Index. No
problem.
However, in the past week I have tried twice to post the 1850 Georgia Census
Index with no luck.
Would anyone have a clue as to why?
I also have the 1860 and 1870 Georgia Census Index I would like to post for
us.
But, need help in getting the 1850 posted first.
Thanks
Donna
Has anyone lost a CARTER or two? Does anyone have a sibling in their line that
they do not know what happened to him?
I happen to have two possible connections for someone.
1. William CARTER, b. 1805, in "York state" according to Canadian census,
naturalized Canadian in 1828, m. Millie HUNTER, also b. in "York state".
William and Millie lived in Oxford County, Ontario, Canada, and raised their
family there. Some of the children eventually migrated into Iowa, Nebraska
and Illinois. Their children's names are: Joel, Cynthy, Sarahann, William
Henry, Edward, Keziah, Harvey, Millie Ann, Amma Jane, Hamilton, and
Oliver.
2. Orrison CARTER m. Phebe HUNTER in Oxford County, Ontario. William CARTER
and Millie HUNTER were witnesses to their marriage. ? Possible brothers and
sisters? Orison and Phebe had a son named Amos.
Does anyone have a connection?

These are the folks you asked about, so I stayed with them. One of the
sources, Wm. R. CARTER of ....etc. had indicated that John CARTER who
married Isabel ATKINSON had first married Grace WHITE. This is the ongoing
search re: these folks that we've been working on. The accumulated dates
virtually eliminate John CARTER m Grace WHITE as being the same John who
married Isabel ATKINSON, above. The documented family groups place John m
Isabel solidly in this family group.
Welcome!

Erastus is the son of William and Martha (?) Carter. He m. Mellisa Sharp ca
1873. They were in Gallatin Mo. about this time. They had a Son named John,
b. ca 1874. Mellisa is purported to be of Cherokee ancestry, but is not
conected to the Dawes Report. If anyone has any idea's, about where to look
next, I would appreciate any and all responses.

Does anyone have records for a man named N. I. CARTER, born in Alabama about
1815? For some of his life he lived in Clark County, Arkansas, where the
1870 census shows his household with Elizabeth (b. abt. 1830, TN, a.k.a.
Sarah) and these Carter children: William R. (b. abt. 1855 MS), Nancy Ann
(b. at. 1856 MS), and Milly (b. abt. 1856 MS, a.k.a. Melissa).
If you want to try to buy a copy, there are a number of sources on the
net that will try to find out of print books. Use one of the search
engines and search for "book search." I ended up with three copies of
a book on Robert "King" Carter that I had been searching for for
three years in used book stores. One place to start is at Stacy's
Book Search at http://www.highfiber.com/~rmcclend/Index.html. One of
their specialties is Genealogy.

Dear List, Someone sent me info on a book called CARTER COUSINS,
1681-1989 by Marie Thompson Eberle and Margaret Shipp Henley. It traces
the family of James and Suannah (Griffith) Carter of Bucks Co., PA from
1702 almost to the present. Does anyone have this book or know where it

My source said that it was in the Library of Congress, Genealogies since

publisher is listed as Timbercreek.

Hello cousins,
I've posted before but it has been a while. I had to unsubscribe for a couple
months as well. I now have a tad bit new info on my CARTER line and am hoping
to make contact with anyone who may either be related or has CARTER's from
Edgefield District, S.C.
Sampson CARTER, b. 1806, Edgefield District, S.C. (forgive me, I'm at work so I
can't remember his date of death) He died probably mid-1870's in Dallas Co.,
AL.
I just now learned Sampson was born in Edgefield District (it is printed on his
headstone). In a few Dallas Co., AL, books at the library, I see reference to a
Capt CARTER and a Maj. CARTER also from Edgefield District. In the Edgefield
District 1790 Census, I see reference to several other CARTER's. We believe
Sampson moved to Dallas Co., AL about 1821.
I would love to hear from anyone researching CARTER's from Edgefield District.
regards,
Karen Negron

You are providing me with a big chunk. Thank you so much.
My line is the Adcocks but have enough information on the Wm and
Mary Carter family to say they lived on the border of Robertson and
Davidson TN, still close enough to Barren Co KY
In fact, Henry Adcock's land (Mary Adcock Carter's father) lies on
both sides of the creek dividing Robertson and Davidson at the time
per Henry Adcock estate deed. Henry died before Aug 1824 per Court
Order Record below for p 468, Book 7, 10 Aug 1824
Robertson County Deed Book 3, pp616-17, dated 19 Jan 1843
Estate deed for Henry Adcock. Evidently the family had kept this
land after Henry's death in 1824(no exact date given). The deed
was "Thomas Jones of Edward Adcock, 19 Jan 1843" Children mentioned
at beginning of deed as heirs of Henry Adcock were Edward Adcock,
Polly Carter, Henry Adcock, Rebecka Adcock, now Wingo, Susanna
Adcock, Joannah Baseye, Isaac Baseye and Anderson Adcock. Signing
the deed were Edward Adcock, Mary & Wm Carter, Susanna Adcock, Anna
Baseye, Isaac Baseye, Henry Adcock, Beverly Adcock, Sarah Adcock.
Sarah is old Henry's wife and do not know abt this Beverly.

With Henry as a son and born abt 1818 and Edward born abt 1822, I
must still be missing a child - maybe.
Since Wm is not with Mary, I assumed he must have died. The lawsuit
did say William deceased in IA?
And, I wonder what happened to son Beverly?? Maybe went to MO with
daughter Priscilla to Nodaway Co?? Will do some more on Beverly.
I have been to Gosport Cem, Marion Co IA where one of Jane Richards
Carter's children by the Richards marriage is buried and took pics.
Boy, I wish I had known then that Wm and Mary might have been
there. I just recently started working on Wm and Mary out of
Robertson Co.
I will send you what I have on son Henry's family and son Beverly's
family so far.
Thanks so much, Paul.

Hi,
I have posted this before, but no luck. Thought I'd try again!
William Carter born Charles Co., MD Married Mary Spaulding (dau. of John) in
1735. Wm. died in 1763; Mary in 1788. They had three sons: Joseph, Jesse and
John.
Joseph (the oldest) was born in Charles Co. MD and died in Breckinridge Co.
KY. He married Mary Beavin. That is all I know of them except that they had
at least one son Richard Franklin Carter born Oct. 16, 1790 in Piscataway,
Prince Geo. Co. MD. On Nov. 21, 1837 he married Elizabeth Mary Beavin in
Breckinridge Co. KY. He died there on Mar. 20, 1853. Elizabeth was the dau.
of Samuel Beavin. She was born on March 27, 1836 and died on July 25, 1863.
Richard and Elizabeth had 8 children: Mary Elizabeth, Modesty Jane, Ambrosia,
Martha, Joseph Flaget, Richard Samuel, Geo. and Francis.
Richard Samuel Carter was born July 27, 1847 in Hardinsburg, Breckinridge Co.

I am finding that the Carter's at least my line, are very elusive. I know that
they were devout Catholics & farmers. My grandfather settled in Cloverport,
KY a very small, but beautiful little town on the banks of the Ohio River not
far from Evansville, IN.
If this info. rings any bells please let me know. I am going to KY in
November and plan to spend some time in that area.
