Robert E. Smith, an electronics technician from Carpentersville, ILL,
has spent 18 years searching for his gr grandfather's grave who died in
the Second Battle of Manassas.
In the National Archives he found a list - misfiled - in a box of those
who had died in Warrenton from this Battle.
He checked out 520 of the 600 names ( from 10 states ) and sent all his
information to the Warrenton Public Library with a note that the town
officals should use it as they wished.
Does anyone know if this information is or will be put online? There's
an awful lot of relatives who want to know about this.
All owe him thanks for this. BTW, he's still looking for his gr gdf.

OK, Jeanette! The following is a list (part 1) of the 520 heretofore
unknown Confederate soldiers who died in the FIRST and SECOND Battles of
Manassas. Coincidentally, a memorial naming ALL of them is being
dedicated at the Warrenton, VA, cemetery TOMORROW! If I might be
indulged just a moment, the Black Horse Chapter of the UDC took this
project on and donations, to put it mildly have been lacking. So one of
their members took out a PERSON loan of $140,000 to ensure that the
monument would become a reality. Donations of ANY amount are welcome.
Donations of $1,000 or more will be displayed on a special commemorative
plaque alongside the Memorial Wall.
If you find your ancestor's name in the lists to follow, PLEASE make out
a check and send it to the monument fund at this address:
To Name the Fallen
P.O. Box 1006
Warrenton, VA 20188
It will be much appreciated.

Just thought I would try this, I have next to no information on my
surname. My dad never cared to remember and everybody else is gone.
My g grandfather was J.R. Carter, possibly (James Renzo), he was born
about 1868. I think he married a woman whose maiden name was "German",
not the ethnic group but that name. My dad thinks that his g
grandparents surname was McCarter. He seems to remember Grapevine, TX
as a possible place of residence before the family moved to Altus, OK.
That's it, I know it's sketchy but I thought I'd try.

Someone sent me this info they found in a book of Union Co. (PA) deaths:
"Dec. 3, 1851, died Milton (PA), ELIZABETH CARTER, 64" The source
credited was Union Weekly Whig, published in Lewisburg, PA.
I'd like to know if anything else was in the obit in the Union Weekly
Whig. Does anyone have an idea about where I could find it and/or does
anyone have additional info on Elizabeth Carter? She's my g-g
grandmother.
Thanks. Barb
In reply to a request, someone sent me this information from a book:
"Dec.3, 1851, died Milton (PA), Mrs. Elizabeth Carter, 64" The book
gave the source as Union Weekly Whig published in Lewisburg, PA.
Does anyone know where I can get the full notice from the Union Weekly
Whig or any more information about Elizabeth Carter? She was my

I am looking for my half-sister, Pauline Jeanette (or Polly Jean), and half
brothers Dillard Earle Jr (or David Lee Carter) and John Roger Carter.
Our father was Dillard Earle Carter (deceased), born June 5, 1917, SS#
549-01-3851 in Stuttgart, AR.
His mother, Erminie Christian, married Dillard Monroe Carter in Harrison,
Arkansas, where they lived for several years. They were still there in
February 1925 according to a news clipping I saw.
Their son, my dad Dillard Earle Carter, married Pauline Barron on June 3,
1934.
3 children were born. (These would be my "half-siblings"):
Pauline Jeanette (or Polly Jean) , April 11, 1935
Dillard Earle Carter, Jr., July 17, 1937,
John Roger Carter, Dec 7, 1939
It has been alleged that Dillard Earle Carter, Jr. became a minister and later
changed his name to David Lee Carter.
Pauline Jeanette Carter married J.L. Croskey December 16, 1960.
Her children were:
Christopher Lee Carter b/d unknown
Marc Robert, May 30, 1952.
Vance Edward Oct. 24, 1954.
If you know of any of the above persons, would you be so kind as to let me
know how I can get in touch.
Thank you.

Hi!
I just subscribed to this site. I am looking for information on the Carter
family from Johnston Co., NC.
The first one in my family is Elizabeth J. Carter, b. 1832 in SC, m. Henry
Anderson Black in 1850, and died in 1871 in Itawamba Co. MS
She was the daughter of John A. Carter, b. 1807in Johnston Co., NC, m.
Sarah Green, (also b. in Johnston Co., NC, in 1801). I don't know when
they married or when they died.
Elizabeth had siblings of Green W. Carter, Sarah Carter and James T.
Carter.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

My g-g grandmother is said to be buried in a cemetery near Muncy, PA.
Her last name was CARTER. Her first name was Elizabeth. She died, I
think, in 1851. At least two of her sons, Daniel and Christian and
probably Edward lived in White Deer Valley for a period.
Daniel and Christian are buried in Elimsport Cenetery. Edward was
married at a church in White Deer.
Does anyone know of old cemeteries in the Muncy area or how I can
discover information from E. Carter's tombstone?
Look forward to hearing from someone.

Hello,
I saw a posting with a mention of Charles Carter of "Cleve". Who is
this and what time frame. I am still trying to get more on James Carter
of Clarke county Va. born abt. 1790. Who were his parents and sibs.
Best
John
Hi everyone. This is my first posting. I don't have much, but I'll give it
a try anyway.
My mother's birth father was Robert"Bobby" Carter of McClennan co, Texas.
She never knew her father and the circumstances surrounding my mother's
birth are a little confusing. My mother was born in 1947. During this time,
her birth grandparents C.U. and Juanita Carter lived across the street from
them in Waco. My grandmother never allowed Robert to see his daughter. Her
name is Sandra Darlene. My grandmother kept them apart, so she never really
knew anything about him. I am interested in locating him. If he is still
alive, he would be in his late 70's or early 80's I think. If he's not
alive, I still would like to meet his family and share information with
them. As it is now, I'm stuck in going anywhere genealogically. I would
appreciate any help.
Thank You

Rebecca Sirl (a widow) and Wm. Carter, a young man were married in Bucks
Co. c.1761. I know they lived there (in Middletown Twp) in 1765 because
they were witnesses to a will dated that year.
Am interested in William's father's name and names of their children.
Also would like to know if other probably unrelated Carters lived in
Bucks Co. in the early 1700's.
Thanks, Barb
Can anyone help this gentleman? Please email him as he is not a member of the

I was wondering what the birthdate is of your John CARTER, and who he is
married to if you know. I am researching John Carter from SC, and I thought
he lived in Colleton Co., but now it looks like maybe he lived in Laurens Co.
too, and his father John Carter lived in Laurens Co. Thanks in advance.
I thought I would include this in case you don't have it( but I'm sure you
probably do).
On Ancestry I found 2 John Carters in the 1790 Census in Laurens Co, SC:
Name of head of Family: Carter, John
Free white males of 16 years and up, including head of family : 2

I think I have info on this family. I spend a lot of time at the Mormon Church
family history library and I have just been going over a set of 6 microfiches
on Laurens Land
Abstracts 1785-1820 (so far I am to about 1804)--"grant 6/25/1769 to Richard
CARTER and wife Margaret whereon said RC lived bounding on Robert and Benjamen
CARTER." If you have a family history library nearby you can order this
fiche-#6010650. So far it is full of transactions by this family, naming sons,
grandsons etc
Are you sure this family originated in PA? I would be interested in the info
you have...let
me know if need more of the info I have on Laurens Co. thank you, Cynthia
