Nancy,
Thanks for the info on George Carter. I'll check the reference to see if
it goes any farther.

I have a Henry Carter who married Mariah Mathews. I believe he was
born in Virginia, and moved to Barron County, Kentucky. Two of their
children were:
1)James A. Carter b. ca 1840, married Annie Key Durham and he died
Jan 27,1928.
2)Thomas Jefferson Carter b. Apr 22, 1847, married Susan Catherine
Durham, and died Nov 24, 1931 in Fannin Co, Tx.
Please let me know if you are familiar with this family. I believe
this Henry Carter is a cousin to my Henry Carter of Montgomery & Floyd
Counties in Virginia.

Hi,
Does anyone have the abstracts of Lancaster Co, VA wills 1653-1800. I am
interested in :
CARTER John wife SPENCER son Joseph.
Pittsylvania Co, VA: Joseph and George CARTER were recommended as ensigns
in the Militia, 27 September 1775. Does anyone have either of these
individuals in their records?
Lynn Marion
I have recently come into possession of some information from the
Gloucestershire Family History Society regarding John CARTER, Goddard
CARTER, Gyles CARTER as well as Robert LAWRENCE. These are some recordings
of monumental inscriptions in Gloucestershire. One interesting fact is
that it shows that Gyles CARTER eldest son of John CARTER and husband of
Elizabeth TRACY,dau of Sir Paul TRACY died without issue. Yet records I
have seen coming around show them to have several children.
If anyone is interested in copies of this info please let me know. If you
can receive an attachment, let me know whether you want tiff, gif or jpeg.
Otherwise give me your address and I'll snail them.
Lynn Marion
In a message dated 98-02-18 21:18:20 EST, you write:
<< I am descended from Thomas b. 1655. I would like to hear from others of
you
descended from Rev. Thomas Carter's line. >>
I am descended from Samuel. My records show a discrepancy in Rev. Carter's
wife's name. A genealogy prepared professionally for my great aunt's DAR
application in 1940 says that, according to the town records of Woburn, MA,
Thomas Carter married Mary, daughter of Philemon and Dorothy Dalton, of
Dedham, MA. Mary died March 28, 1687. The genealogist notes, "We find one
variation in this statement, i.e., in The Colonial Clergy and the Colonial
Churches of New England by Frederick Lewis Weis (Lancaster, Mass, 193?), p.
50, under the account of their son Samuel the name of the mother is given as
Mary Parkhurst. In every other respect Mr. Weis's account agrees with that
found in the History of Woburn, Town Records, the Carter genealogy, et
cetera."
Has anyone else resolved this question?
Diana Baber
I would like to confirm the children of REV. THOMAS CARTER b. 1610 England,
first ordained minister of Woburn, MA, died 1684 Woburn, MA; married Mary
Parkhurst d. 1687.
My records show they had eight children:
i. Samuel b. 1640
ii. Judith b.
iii. Theophilus b. 1645
iv. Mary b. 1648
v. Abigail b. 1649/50
vi. Deborah b. 1651
vii. Timothy b. 1653
viii. Thomas b. 1655
I am descended from Thomas b. 1655. I would like to hear from others of you
descended from Rev. Thomas Carter's line.

I received the following e-mail from one of my good looking young cousins
I met last June at the first annual CARTER Reunion & Genealogy Search.
She is one of the "57 new" cousins I met out of 62 attending.
Anyone that can make a connection to the names below, please send e-mail
direct to Retha (she is not a member of the list), and she will deliver
the information to her friend Bettie.
Thank you,

Tim. I'm one of your distant cousins who attended the reunion last
summer.
A lady I work with (Bettie) also has Carters in her background, & I was
wondering if there's any way you could let me know if her Carters are
connected to ours.
Her father was Vance Benjamin CARTER (b. 1/1/1915 in Drew Co., AR. died
few yrs ago);
grandfather was James Benjamin CARTER (b. 8/8/1876 in Drew Co., d.
8/24/51, m. Ethel SAWYER CARTER 12/20/1917);
gr. grandfather was Samuel Edward CARTER (b. 11/17/1849, Mississippi, d.
2/5/1930, Drew Co. m. Martha Jane DALTON CARTER 2/7/1873);
gr.gr.grandfather was Edward CARTER (b. 1797 in South Carolina, d. in
Lincoln Co. AR, m. Nancy CARTER of South Carolina who also died in
Lincoln Co.)
If it's not too much trouble, please check this out to
see if she's related to us--she's really interested in her
background, & I figured if any one could find this out, it would be
you!!!
Looking forward to the 2nd Carter Reunion in June--really
enjoyed the last; also, looking forward to your email!
Thanks!!

1. Just received a copy of a 'Marriage Bond' between William W. Carter and
Matilda Geizer, it was sponsored? co-signed? guaranteed? by Charles D.Carter
who was perhaps Williams father, all this took place in Halifax, NS. Anyone
recognizing either name please contact me. Family history was that the
Carters came from New Hampshire to Nova Scotia in the 1700's.
2. Saw a notice re a Carter clearinghouse with a web site and e-mail address
posted by Helen Nichols Battleson, however, cannot get either to work, could
they be reposted again, I seem to always have problems when the recipient
