Hi Cuzins!
Pricilla Carter married Williamson Burnett and are my GGG-Grandparents.
I have extensive information on the Burnett line back to Aberdeen, Scotland
and a little bit on Carter. I do have a good bit of information on
Pricilla and Williamson's children, decendants and ancestors is anyone is
interested. I have sent most of what I have to Lynn already.

Hi, Carolinians
This is Lin, and I've just now resubscribed to this list and missed the rest
of this discussion about murders. But I have a question about serious
research into a murder I have found in the Jan 1811 Superior Court of
Caswell Co NC records, for which the venue was switched to GUILFORD Co NC.
The Caswell Co NC record states that one Elizabeth BEAVER was indicted for
murder, pleaded innocent and was found not guilty by a jury of 12 named
people. But it does not tell who the victim was. How can I find this out,
please? My ancestor Alexander Walker, whose son married Elizabeth BEAVER in
1813, died between mid-December 1810 and this January 1811 court session.
There is a later trial for what may have been the same crime. In 1813,
Rebecca CARTER and Frances "Fanny" SNOW were indicted for murder, and the
witnesses subpoenaed to give evidence for the State against them were all
the same people who had been called for the 1811 trial, including Jeremiah
BEAVER, who was the father of Elizabeth BEAVER and who was charged with
seeing that his daughters Ann and Judith were present to testify. The venue
for this trial was, according to the October 1813 Superior Court of Caswell
Co NC records, to be transferred to the next [presumably quarterly] session
of the Superior Court of GUILFORD Co NC - but alas, the LDS Library does not
have these court records! I don't know if the quarters were the same for
both counties, but if they were, then this Guilford Co NC trial would have
been in January 1814. In any case, it would have been not earlier than
October 1813 and not later than January 1814.
An up-and-coming young lawyer named Romulus SANDERS (of Tennessee in 1812,
but of a Caswell Co NC family, and later of Wake Co NC when he died as "the
Honourable R. M. Sanders") presented his credentials to the Caswell court
session of October 1813 and qualified to practise law in that county the day
before the indictment and the decision to change the venue.
Rebecca CARTER was a daughter of Jesse CARTER "Esquire" of Caswell Co NC,
and she (wait for it) MARRIED Romulus SANDERS. I assume therefore that
Rebecca CARTER was acquitted in Guilford Co NC, since she went on to marry.
But at the time of the court records I saw, she was under lock and key at
the Caswell Co NC jail.
Jesse CARTER owned a store and other things including a tavern and appears
to have been a regular customer of my ancestor Alexander WALKER (c1765-ca
Jan 1811), who was a distiller and wrote lots of promissory notes to people
denominated in gallons of good-proof whisky. After he died intestate, his
administrators had a field day depleting his estate, and everybody sued
everybody else over it. The probate file runs to more than 60 pages.
What newspapers were published in the area that might tell who the victim of
this murder was? Caswell Co NC had no newspapers at this time - the first
was to be published some years later in Milton, Caswell Co NC. In 1811,
Caswell Co NC was bounded by Virginia (Pittsylvania Co and Mecklenburg Co)
to the north, Person Co NC to the east, Orange Co NC [now Alamance Co NC] to
the south and Rockingham Co NC to the west, with Guilford Co NC at its
southwestern corner.
How can I find out more????? Thanks for any assistance!

My gr.grandfather was W.W.CARTER, the WW stands for William Wallace, Wilfred
Wallace, William Wilfred, or any combination of those or perhaps others,
Wilfred runs through the male line of the family to son, grandson and
gr.grandson, also there is a Wallace as a second name. That is my first
problem with this man.
The second is who were his parents? he was born in Great Village, Colchester
Co., Nova Scotia c.1836 according to family history, and that is all I have
for now.
He married Charlotte Matilda Geizer/Geiser/Geise in Halifax NS 1816 Dec.1837
at St.Georges Anglican church. However, the family were Baptist, one family
story was that a sister of WW was a deacon? of a Baptist church in Mass.
Which sounds unlikely to me but who knows.
Any help would be appreciated, I have no idea who his brothers and sisters
were, but his sons were Clarence Henry Fixit and Wilfred and the daughters
Charlotte, Emma, Armina, Ada and Florence.

is shown to be twenty three years of age, having been born in September
of 1876, in North Carolina. Malcom Carter and family were living in
Rosehill, Alabama, in Covington County at that time. Any information
would be appreciated. I have hit a brick wall in researching Malcom, and

manner. You may contact me at <loyd&loey(a)tyler.net>.

Cousins,
There seems to be a new problem developing across the various sur-name
lists. It has been addressed by some of the varous listowners and that has
to to with e-mail sent in html format. I want to cover a couple of issues
regarding this growing problem. Gratefully, we haven't been hit too hard
with it yet. Thus, I would like to stop it before it gets started.
Some of the newer email programs can send email in "html format", with an
imaged imbedded in the code. Some state of the art mail readers can handle
it, but it should not be on the list. People posting to the lists, need to
"TURN OFF" their "HTML" when sending email. It is a nice feature for
businesses who want to send documents with graphics, but has no place on a
mail list where many cannot read it. Sending email in html format with
letterhead images contained within the code can cause problems. It starts a
series of, "What is this posts?", from those who cannot read it.
I am sure many do not realize that they are sending in html and also may
not know how to turn it off. Sometimes some rude posts from those who
don't understand why they are receiving garbage are the result. If we all
used Netscape or I.E. for our mail, there would be no problem. But we do
not. The practice seems to be getting worse and will, unless we agressively
ask our members not to use it. It is a nice feature for business, but
really has no place on a mail list.
So, if your e-mail program can send email in HTML FORMAT, please disable
that feature when posting to this list, or any other list hosted on RootsWeb.
Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,
Charles E.Carter

I am looking for information on my great grandfather James Carter. He
supposedly was born in GA. He married Mary Bishop (born Oct 18, 1864 in
GA). James Carter supposedly died about the time his last child was
born (1904). Their children were:
Josephine Carter born Jun 17, 1892; married David Staggs
Emma Carter born Nov 7, 1897 (?); married ____ Grubbs
Maude Carter born May 2, 1898; married Thomas Whitt
Mauldin Carter born May 2, 1898 (my grandfather)
Dorothy Carter born Aug 5, 1904; married Milus Herman Lister
I have extensive information on all the children except for Emma
Carter. They all moved to SC.
Mary Bishop Carter was listed on the 1900 US Census as head of the
household but also listed as married. She and her children were living
in Murphy, NC. I can't find James Carter.
After James Carter's supposed death around 1904, Mary married Harvey
Thomas in SC about 1908. They had at least four additional children:
Ellie M. Thomas b about Sep 1909
Ernest Thomas b 1911, d 1933
Minnie Thomas b about 1916, d about 1941
Mattie B. Thomas b about 1919
Mary died about 1923-1925.
I can not find much to link James Carter to Mary Bishop other than some
death certificates. Therefore, I do not know much beyond his name.
I have posted my Carter line on my personal web page at
http://www.rmi.net/~pacarter/home.html
Thanks,
Paul Carter

Hi Everyone
Because of new information I may be looking for William Vincent CARTER. Does
anyone have more in depth information on the Halifax NC Carter's. I know that
there were several William's in the late 1700's early 1800's and I know that
at least one of the Wm.'s when on to Smith Co. TN (and I know others went onto
Smith Co. as well). What I am trying to figure out is if one of those could
be the father of my Vincent Carter (Wm. Vincent CARTER?).
I know my (Wm.?) Vincent CARTER b. 1803 Halifax NC came to Smith Co. TN with
his family in 1806.
Thanks Mara
