Seeking informtion on Tallifaro/Tolliver Carter (b. 1770-80), 1840 Roane Co
census p. 72. Can we connect him to the Tallifaro Carter who appears in the
1830 Pittsylvania Co VA census.
His son Thomas also appears in the 1840 and 1850 Roane Co censi (wife
Parthena), b. 1805 NC.
I am trying to find a connection between my HUGH CARTER, b. 14 Aug 1832 in
Greene Co, TN and d. in Henderson County, TX on 6 Sept 1909 and the HUGH
CARTERS listed in the Green County, TN records below.
My HUGH CARTER was a Civil War veteran from Henderson County, TX and married
Mary Emly (?) on 7 Feb 1868 in Cherokee County, TX. Mary Emly (?) was b. 12
Dec 1840 and d. 4 Sept. 1910.
HUGH CARTER was listed in the household of a "JAMES WALLING" (from the
Lick Creek area of TN) taken from the 1860 census of Henderson Co, TX. Living
with JAMES WALLING were: HUGH CARTER age 27 was listed as a waggoner born in
TN and WILLIAM CARTER age 19 b. in MS.
The Greene County, TENNESSEE .......HUGH CARTER listings are:
HUGH CARTER m. Sarah Ross 9 Mar 1788 in Greene Co, TN according to an
Everton Publishing CD #229. They had son HUGH CARTER, JR. b. 1786 in either
VA or Greene Co, TN. This HUGH CARTER m. Rebecca Babb 12 Sep 1820 in Greene
Co, TN and had a son JAMES W. CARTER. This James was b. 1821 d. 3 Oct 1836
Greene Co, TN. He m. a Rebecca __?__. They had ch: Abel, Abner, John,
William, Polly, George, James, Samuel, HUGH, Margaret, Rachel, Rebecca and
Nancy.
There is a possibility that my HUGH CARTER'S father left TN and moved to MS.
I am having a "very" difficult time connecting my Hugh CARTER to his
ancestral lineage. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
Pam

I have an indication of a marriage between an Edward Carter and Nancy Allen

like a promising prospect.

Hi everyone,
I feel I've just returned from a long voyage, where I was tossed and turned
and definitely without a rudder. It's rough out there where few seem to
even read their e-mail let alone answer it. It's good to be back,
especially if someone can help me.
Some problems I am trying to solve:
I) Does anyone have a background on Elias J Carter m Elizabeth Christian;
daughter Nancy b 2 May 1837 NC m 15 Oct 1852 Joseph McNeeley?
II) Searching for ancestery of Abraham Carter who was in KY in 1801.
Decendents would include Hampton T Carter m Anne E Barber their son William
Barber "Buck" Carter m Viola "Ola" Wright.
III) Still seeking decendents or ancestors of Joseph Carter m Nancy

Does anyone have Albert in their families?? Albert Hiram CARTER was born
in Nebraska
in 1874, parents unknown, and married Lenora CHUBICK/CHUBBUCK about 1894,
probably in Iowa as the first three children were born in that state. They
had a large family, the names of which I have if anyone would like them.
Right now I'm trying to find out more about Albert and only have the 1910
census from Harrison Co., MO, where they moved from IA between 1896 and
1898. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello again,
I am still looking for the parents of David Carter born
Feb. 20, 1758 in NJ....according to an affidavit he
gave in Franklin Co. GA, he served in the Rev. War
with Col. Morgan Morgan (WV), Col. Cleveland (NC),
Gen. Griffith Rutherford (NC), Gen. Gates (SC) in the
Battle of Camden, and under Col. Isaacs. I have
been told Jacob, John, and Levi Carter served with
some of the same officers. David states in his
pension papers that he married in Virginia, but I have
to believe he married Mehitable Cobb in NC or SC.
So, there might be a first wife for David. He had 3
known children (others are possible):
Micajah - born 1787, David Jr. 1792, & Mehitable
abt. 1780.
I have records of him living in Monongalia Co., WV;
Surry Co., NC; Pendleton Dist. SC; Jackson Co., Ga.
and Franklin Co., GA. I believe he may have lived in
TN at one point (early 1800s). Any help?
Also, there were several Carters in Franklin that
could be related:
Thomas born 1750 married Mary (has been said she
was a Cobb also)
John married Nancy Ann ? and had sons named David
and Thomas
William who had chn: Redmond, Unity, & William
James who married Lydia
Abel who married Matilda (related to a Col. John Carter)
Thanks,
Judy
Hello CARTER cousins and listmembers,
Just before the list "unpleasantness" began, I discovered the
parents of my grandfather in Ark. They were Allen CARTER b. in Ark. ca 1864
and Ida BRYANT b. MO ca. 1868.
I would like to locate where they are buried and why they died so
very young. Allen is said to have died when grandpa was a baby (he was
born in 1892 Ark.) and Ida is dead prior to 1920.
If any of you CARTER researchers in Ark have stumpled across this
couple I would sure love to hear from you. They listed Jonesboro, Ark as
their place of residence even though the place of birth for Jesse is
listed as Brinkley, Ark....another mystery.
Hoping someone will take the time to write back. sharon carter smith

To Mara Harris and everybody,
Mara, are you still looking for the family of MOULTON CARTER? I came
across a write-up on this family (descendants of GILES CARTER) which
appears VERY well documented and extensive. It is as follows:
Some Southern Colonial Families, Vol 4, David A. Avant, Jr. (publ by
L'Avant Studios, Tallahassee, FL, 1991)pages 139 - 152.
It's too long to transcribe, but let me know if there are particulars
you (or others) need while I have it out of the library. Alas, this
excellent book did NOT contain any of my BENJAMIN, CHURCHILL SR,
CHURCHILL JR, CARTERS. I'm still looking and would appreciate hearing
from anyone who may run across them.
The write-up quoted in your earlier posting, incidentally, sounds a lot
like one of the "County Heritage History" books?
Hope this helps.

No need to resubscribe. Larry transferred over the list he had
to the "Kind folk" at RootsWeb and they added everyone to the
new list that had been subscribed as of 05/08/97.
IF, anyone has tried to subscribe since then, OR if anyone has
tried to unsubscribe since that date, they will need to take
the action desired now.
If you know of someone that fits into either category above,
please let them know, or contact me and I can make the changes.
Also, just to let you all know. Everyone that WAS on the old
list is now subscribed in MAIL format. IF, you desire DIGEST
format, it will require that you send a message and unsubscribe
from CARTER-L. You will then have to resubscribe by sending a
message to:
CARTER-D-request(a)rootsweb.com
in the subject line type:
subscribe
and nothing else. Be sure to turn off your signature line
if you are using one.
Any questions, drop me a line. I might not be able to get
back to you until Tuesday, but will reply as soon as possible.

Carter Cousins,
It's good to be back! I think that you all will agree with that!
Following is a "Temporary" Welcome Message. When I have the time,
(hopefully this long weekend) I will refine the message into one
for our list rather than using this "generic" message. Until then,
this message will at least give you instructions on how to use
the new list and the SmartList mail program.
Have a Happy & Safe weekend.

Welcome to the CARTER mailing list!
You are currently subscribed in "mail mode", which means that you
will receive every posting made to CARTER as a separate e-mail.
The directions on how to change to digest mode are given below.
1. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to
CARTER-L-request(a)rootsweb.com
that contains (in the body of the message) the command
unsubscribe
and no additional text.
2. How to subscribe. Whatever you just did worked, or you'd
not be getting this message. But for future reference (for instance,
if your subscription is cancelled for whatever reason and you
want to resubscribe), just send the command "subscribe" to
CARTER-L-request(a)rootsweb.com.
3. How to change to digest mode (several postings are combined and
sent to you together as a single large message). There are two
steps. First, send the command "unsubscribe" to
CARTER-L-request(a)rootsweb.com to discontinue mail mode. Second,
send the command "subscribe" to CARTER-D-request(a)rootsweb.com
to start receiving digests.
4. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode.
All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe
when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them
to start again, simply subscribe again.
5. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing
list receives it, just send it to CARTER-L(a)rootsweb.com. It
will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode.
You don't need to send it explicitly to both.
Hey Guys,
WE'RE BACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It seems like such a very, very long time! I guess I must have
gone through withdrawl pains.
I'm certain that everyone has some questions or queries built up,
so let's get down to work again and find our CARTER ancestors.
