Hello!
I am new to your list. I am searching for my paternal ggrandfather's
ancestors. My grandmother, Mary Eretta CARTER, b. 1884/1885 Kansas,
d. when my father was about 7, May 31, 1926. She was confirmed and
md. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Fort Worth, TX. These records still
exist at the new Trinity Church, but I have been unable to get a copy
of them. She md. Dr. Aaron Ross Hays, b. 1883 Crowley, TX, d. 1961?.
Her father was a colorful gentleman cattle buyer. He came from "a
family of 6 sons-3 fought for the north and 3 fought for the south."
James William CARTER, b. ca 1850, MO/Kansas/or Iowa???, d. 1924, TX.
md. Jennie Franklin, b.ca 1854, Houston, TX, d.1929, buried in
Trinity Cemetery, Tarrant Co., TX. (I can't find this cemetery.)
Family stories have him an early manager of the King Ranch that was
hired away by the Fort Worth Stockyards to manage there. My father
states, "He came to visit on the train. He had a handlebar mustache
and a stiff white collar. He brought my brother and I exciting
presents like a horsehair lariat and real arrows..."
I found him listed in some early TX land grants for Tarrant County.
I also discovered that Kiowa Kansas opened its first cattle market
and train depot about 1884/5, when Mary Eretta was born in Kansas.
Can anyone make a connection?? I understand the "War" drove his
generation apart. Any help would be appreciated. My Dad's 80th is
in January and I hope to present him with some info about his family.

I am looking for information on Ann Carter born about 1787 married to
James David Sloas/Sluss/Slusher/Schlosser. James was born about 1777 in
VA, died January 15, 1862. He and Ann married May 14, 1810 in Wythe
Co., VA.
Hi,
I am looking for a Lucy CARTER, born around 1809 in the Northern Neck of
Virginia, probably in Northumberland Co. She married William Christopher
WINSTEAD on 30 Aug 1825. Does anyone know who her parents were? Any help
appreciated.
Thanks!
Sue
Since a few of you kind souls responded positively to my inquiry about the
list and McCarter's I will give it a whirl and post my line(s), as I currently
know it. To the best of my knowledge this family was in or around York County
SC except where noted and they used the Mc. I have some siblings of the
various children's lines and would enjoy sharing if anyone makes a connection.

The Night Before Jesus Came
Twas the night before Jesus came and all through the house
Not a creature was praying, not one in the house.
Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care
In hopes that Jesus would never come there.
The children were dressing to crawl into bed,
Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head.
And Mom in her rocker with baby on lap
Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap.
When out of the East there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash!
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.
With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray
I knew in a moment this must be THE DAY!
The light of His face made me cover my head
It was Jesus returning just like He had said.
And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth,
I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.
In the Book of Life which He held in His hand
Was wirtten the name of every saved man.
He spoke not a word as He searched for my name.
When He said "Its not here" my head hung in shame.
The people whose name had been written with love
He gathered to take to His Father above.
With those who were ready He rose without sound
While all the rest were left standing around.
I fell to my knees, but it was too late;
I had waited too long and thus sealed my fate.
I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight;
Oh, if only we had been ready tonight.
In the words of this poem the meaning is clear,
The coming of jesus is drawing quite near.
There's only one life and when comes the last call
We'll find that the Bible was true after all!

I joined this mailing list because the rootsweb description indicated this was
the place for "McCarter" discussions; however, after watching for a while
there have been no postings for this surname. Is this the right place? If
so, are there any McCarter researchers subscribed? Thanks. Janelle Dixon

My husband's grandmother was Cordelia Carter b.1/31/1882 d/10/21/1960.
She married Authur Dennis Chunn. Both of them died in Union Co., MS and
are buried there. I believe Cordelia's father was Taylor Carter. My
mother-in-law believes they lived in Pontotoc Co., MS before settling in
Union Co., MS. She knows nothing else about them. I have pictures of
Cordelia and two of her brothers, Tom Carter and Hugh Carter. Can
anyone help me with this line? Thanks.

My God Is No Stranger
I've never seen God but I know how I feel,
It's people like you who make Him so real.
It seems that I pass Him so often each day,
In the faces of people I meet on my way.
He's the stars in the heavens,
A smile on some face,
A leaf on a tree or a rose in a vase.
He's winter and autumn and
Summer and spring
...In short, God is every real, wonderful thing.
I wish I might meet Him more often than I do...
I would if there were more people like you.
Ask God to lead you to do that extra kind thing for someone.
__________
All of you people on line seem like a family. It is great to have
someone to interact with, talk with, ask questions, and feel a part of.
God Bless you all,
