Hello:
I would like to post my interest in the James CARTER family (my great, great
grandparents). This is what I know about them.
James CARTER, b. 1769, Wiltshire, England
married to
Charlotte (maiden name unknown), b. 16 Nov. 1789, Wiltshire, England.
James & Charlotte, along with their family, came to Canada in 1831, settling
in Farnham Plains, later called Arkell, in Puslinch Township, Wellington
County, Ontario, Canada.
Children:
John, b. 1813
Thomas, b. June 1817
James, Jr. b. 1821
Mary Ann, b. 1823
Ruth, b. 1825
We have information that indicates three daughters remained in England:
Margaret, married to ?? Smith
Ann, married to ?? Townsend
Elizabeth
I have received some information from other mailing lists about a James
Carter, but since I do not have Charlotte's maiden name, it is hard to know
if the info. is about my James. As well, research in Wiltshire found
nothing for the children. I can't seem to locate any info. here on
Charlotte's maiden name. Both James and Charlotte died in 1856, but there
is no clue as to her maiden name - I have checked the death records at the
Church they attended but no maiden name. They were members of the Anglican
Church.
James and Charlotte, along with some other families, were encouraged to come
to Canada by John Arkell, and his cousin, Thomas Arkell, who I believe came
from Gloucestershire.
I would like to extend my research back further. Any
information/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Joy
- in Canada.
