Hello,
I am interested in the CARTERS who lived in Bedfordshire and London.
My earliest ancestor in Virginia was Thomas CARTER, born 1630/31 in England,
died 1700 in Virginia. It appears likely that this Thomas Carter was the son
of William Ancell CARTER (born 10-28-1591, Kempston, BDS, died about 1634 in
England) and his wife Jane MYLES (about 1598-1633). William and Jane were
married about 1617 in BDS, England. I have traced backward several generations.
What I am trying to determine now is, for certain, whether or not this
particular Thomas CARTER, born 10-26-1630, Barford, BDS, England, was the Thomas
CARTER who emigrated to Virginia in approx. 1650-1655. My Thomas CARTER shows on
tax rolls in Virginia beginning in 1657.
I would appreciate any suggestions as to how to research ships records for
Thomas CARTER's name during 1650-1655, or any other suggestions anyone has for
proving this connection. It appears likely that this is the correct line of
Carters because my ancestor in Virginia, Capt. Thomas Carter, named his home in
Virginia 'Barford,' and the names in both families are very similar.
If there is any male descendant of William Ancell Carter and his wife Jane
described above who has the surname CARTER and would consent to be part of a DNA
project for the Carter surname, please contact me. If anyone is interested
in this project, it is
http://www.carter-cousins.org for complete information.
This project is open to anyone and it is not limited to the USA.
Thank you for any assistance you may be able to give me.
