Hi Paul
Having just re-read your February posting to CARTER-UK list, realise I had
misread your first line. Didn't reply at the time as I thought you were
specifically looking for CARTER in Redmarley D'Abitot.
I have CARTER line in Worcs/Glos, particularly Bredon, Kinsham and
Tewkesbury. Have baptisms, marriages and deaths in those three.
The earliest I have is James CARTER m Ann HATCH at Bredon 1807. I think
James had siblings named Thomas and Joseph (probably others as well) and I
think his parents were a John and Elizabeth. (nothing unusual there then!)
James was a stone-mason and bricklaying/building seems to have come down the
generations. One line were blacksmiths. I have one who was a cordwainer, and
several seemed to marry into cordwaining families.
Although I still have to confirm James' children's baptisms from Bredon
Parish Registers (the details I have were taken from IGI) I do have most of
James/Ann's children's marriages and have followed their lines quite
successfully - Ashton-under-Hill, Tewkesbury, Kings Norton, Birmingham.
It's the earlier part relating to James CARTER's parentage that's my
problem. Someone who did a look-up for me on 1851 census
(my Glos CD doesn't have Bredon/Kinsham on it!!!) found a John (77)
and Elizabeth CARTER (80) (both born Chipping Camden) living as
lodgers in Sheep St Chipping Camden.
I would be interested to know what CARTERs you are looking for. Having seen
a CARTER pedigree online for the CARTERs of Arlingham, Glos, I don't
think mine have any connection to them.
Hope to hear from you.
Barbara
