It has been some time since I last posted my interests and have gathered
some new information so thought I would re-post.
I am searching for any information on the family of James CARTER, born on 20
April 1801 to James and Hannah; baptised on 22 April 1804 at St Giles,
Cripplegate, London; married to Jane HARRISON at St George in the East,
London in 1825; and dieing sometime between 1842 and 1847 in Bethnal Green.
James and Jane had two known sons:
1. James, baptised on 6 April 1828 at St Mary's, Whitechapel, London.
James became a Clerk in Holy Orders and immigrated to NSW arriving in Sydney
on 10 December 1853 per the "Herefordshire". He married first to Sarah
Elizabeth BETTS at Parramatta on 20 April 1854 and after her death to
Elizabeth Mary PAYNE in Sydney on 22 January 1884. He died in Summer Hill
on 26 November 1909. With his two wifes he had a total of 9 children.
2. John, baptised on 1 June 1830 at St Dunstan's, Stepney, London.
I have found James snr with James jnr and John living at Temple Street,
Bethnal Green in the 1841 census. I think Jane may have died in 1839.
James snr had 3 siblings:
1. Hannah, born on 11 September 1803, baptised on 22 April 1804 at St
Giles', Cripplegate. She died before 1813.
2. Edward William, born on 15 October 1810, baptised on 1 April 1818 at St
Leonards', Shoreditch. Edward married Frances Eliza (Eliza) HARRISON in
1833 at Christ Church, Greyfriars, Newgate. They had two known children,
Edward John and Eliza Jane. I think Edward William died in 1892 in
Brentford. He was a silversmith and spoonmaker. I have found him in all
census returns from 1841 to 1881. He lived most of his adult life in Worship
Street or Square, St Leonards, Shoreditch.
3. Hannah, born on 4 October 1813, baptised on 1 April 1818 at St
Leonards', Shoreditch.
Any information gratefully accepted.
Cheers,
