A couple of weeks ago, I started a thread on how to organize all the
genealogy data/papers etc. that we seem to collect. I want to thank all
the helpful people who shared their systems with all of us.
Now I want to get ideas on scrapbooks. I want to give my sisters (two)
copies of all the data I have collected on our ancestors. Eventually, I
would like my children also to have copies. So far, I have a very large
binder and have color coordinated our eight grandparents so that all
their ancestors would have the same color scheme. I am using plastic
sheets for the inside. For each surname that I have a branch for, I am
creating a division. I am starting each division with a coat of arms
and a history of the name. After that I have a tree, history of the
locations where they left and where they settled, including maps. Then
I have added copies of any documents that I have collected, such as
censuses, directories, bmd certs, obits, pictures etc.
I would like more ideas to make this more presentable. Please address
your remarks to the group and not to me personally so we can all benefit
from your creativity.
As a side note, due to the help I received on organizing my data, I
started putting each grandparent and/or large surname in a binder. To
do this I had to through all my data and found things I had forgotten
about! I was actually able to add some siblings to one of my
grandparents and now have a better direction on my searching. I guess
the lesson here is to review what you have periodically.
