History of Warren County
Background material...
In 1800 all of Ohio was part of the Northwest Territory. The county was
formed in 1803 from out of Hamilton County. The boundary lines were drawn
basically the same as today, but for the northwestern corner. A small part
was in Butler county, but later became a part of Warren county C 1820.
Warren county was named for General Joseph Warren, who died at the Battle of
Bunker Hill during the Revolution.
Warren Co.is located in southwest Ohio. The neighboring counties are:
Montgomery, Greene, Clinton, Clermont, Hamilton & Butler.
In Lebanon, the county seat, is Ohio's oldest Inn: the Golden Lamb,
functioning since 1803, (But the present building dates from 1815.) Author
Charles Dickens stayed there in 1842. And several presidents (U.S. Grant)
did too. The Western Star newspaper, one of Ohio's oldest weekly newspapers
was operatating and has been printed in Lebanon since 1807. Tara Ellen Dixon
Engel was the editor for a time.
