Hello List (copy to Carter list),
Two months ago a man in Florida e-mailed me to say he had purchased a photo
album at an antique fair, and he thought it could be my family. I have
registered my ancestors names around the place, and it became clear that he
indeed appeared to really have the goods.
He wanted to sell it to me for $450 dollars, a price he said was fair as
there were quite a few tin types in it. I talked my sister in New York
into taking a giant leap of faith and use her money (!) to purchase the
album. She sent the cheque off and we waited and waited, and just when we
were beginning to feel a bit foolish it arrived.
The album is definitely worth the money, even if it didn't have my family
in it which it does. There are about 15 or 20 photos of my ancestors and
the rest are of unidentified people.
The pictures are amazing, there are quite a few taken by photographers in
Wolverhampton, Dudley and Birmingham, England and the rest are in Ohio,
Penslyvania and Florida which is where they ended up. The Ohio and
Penslyvania pictures are from Warren, Niles, Youngstown and the Penslyvania
pictures are from Waynesburg, Pittsburgh, Washington, Philidelphia. Some
of the family names are: HACKETT, WHITEHOUSE, WILLICK, ROOF, CLARK, TROW,
JONES, WILLS, HICKEY, PROSER, TIBBALS, TATE, COFFERY, STEWART, BRETTELL
with the main name of CARTER.
The CARTER names in it are: BLANCHE HACKETT CARTER, NETTIE CARTER, ROY
CARTER, BESS CARTER, TRUTH CARTER, THOMAS CARTER, JOHN CARTER, KIT CARTER.
There are quite a few pictures without names so I am endeavouring to get
them scanned and put them on a homepage.
Cheers,
Michelle
