Wow! is that an interesting line! My ggrandfather's name was Samuel Carter,
but I rather doubt it is the same one. He lived in Pennsylvania.

Subject: [NoCarter] Carter line I'm researching-Jean/John Chartier/Carter,
Deerfield captive
> Hello- I am responding to someone's suggestion we post our
Carter family
research interests. I am searching for information about the ancestors
of
Samuel Carter, father of John Carter. John was my gggggggrandfather. He
> was born in Deerfield, Ma. in 1695 to Samuel and Mercy Brooks.
In 1704
he was one of the Deerfield captives taken to Quebec by de Rouville's
raiders. He stayed in Quebec (as did a brother and sister, one brother,
> Ebenezer, was redeemed). He converted to Catholicism and took
the name
Jean Chartier. I have all my ancestry info forward from that point. The
Chartier family association publication on the Carter/Chartiers notes a
> couple of theories on Samuel's origins and I am getting
documents from
them that should illuminate the situation somewhat. I note that only
one of
John's sons stayed inCanada, my ancestor, Jean Baptiste. The others
> returned to the US, some fought in the American Revolutin and
some
resumed the Carter name. Some midWest Carters are from these lines, I
believe.
