I have class all day on Saturday, or I would attend. If anyone is able to attend, would
you please give us a run down? I really hate it that I cannot go!

Dear Group:
Today I received a flier from The Carter Society, Descendants of Colonial Virginians,
advertising a seminar they are sponsoring.
The text of the flier is as follows:
A NEW ERA IN ANCESTRAL RESEARCH!
"GENETEALOGY"
10:00 am, Saturday, June 12, 2005 $10.00/person
LaPrade Library, 9000 Hull Street Road, Richmond, VA 23236
Renowned author and speaker Megan Smolenyak reveals how the "marriage of genetics
and genealogy" is ushering in a new era in ancestral research. Ms Smolenyak will
discuss her own experiences in launching and managing a family tree DNA project, how a
surname study evolved into a community project, some of the surprising results to date and
planned future initiatives.
Ms Smolenyak has been an avid genealogist for 30 years and is the author of HONORING OUR
ANCESTORS: INSPIRING STORIES OF THE QUEST FOR OUR ROOTS, IN SEARCH OF OUR ANCESTORS: 101
INSPIRING STORIES OF SERENDIPITY AND CONNECTION IN REDISCOVERING OUR FAMILY HISTORY, and
THEY CAME TO AMERICA: FINDING YOUR IMMIGRANT ANCESTORS. Ms Smolenyak was lead researcher
for the PBS Ancestors series and developed much of the content for the companion website,
and did most of the research for the PBS program, THEY CAME TO AMERICA. She has presented
her DNA project experiences to many local, national and international heritage
organizations and on numerous national television and radio programs. A must presentation
for today's genealogist!

I sure wish I lived closer to Richmond and had more notice as I would go. However, I
wanted everyone to see this, and if there is anyone who can go I think it would be a great
way to spend a Saturday.
