Hi Meg,
I am 39347 in group 19, and I posted the genealogy. I know this can be a
little confusing, so let me sort it out for you. If you follow my tree back
to Berry Lafayette Carter, Sr. (he is my 2nd great grandfather), you will
see that his mother is Sarah (Sally) Carter. His father is listed as Charles
Carter. Both of his parents were therefore Carters; however, for reasons
unknown, they never wed. From Sarah (Sally) Carter on back to William Carter
of Middlesex Co., the tree switches to the maternal side. Hence, my DNA test
result, which is from father to son only, may not match the DNA results of
others who are descended from William Carter of Middlesex County on the
paternal side. I wanted to include that portion of the tree because (1) they
are Carters that I am related to (on the maternal side), (2) much research
went into the part of my tree, and (3) I thought it would be useful to other
Carters that may be in this line. I know it is accurate, with a few minor
exceptions that I have corrected and I just need to get around to uploading
the more up-to-date tree. I have pointed out the fact that the tree goes
back on the maternal side from Sarah Carter in previous postings, which were
some time ago now, so you probably did not see them.
The exact identity of the Charles Carter who is Berry Lafayette Carter's
father is not known with certainty. My grandfather and others have always
reported that Berry's father was a Charles Carter. I have done quite a bit
of research trying to identify just who this Charles Carter was, and I have
a good bit of evidence, mostly circumstantial, of his identity, but no
definitive, concrete proof. I have, in fact, written extensively of my
findings. My hope has been that DNA testing would help in solving this
mystery.
I hope this answers your question. Let me know if I can be of further
assistance.
Ken Carter

Hi Vickie,
Question. I notice that 15223 in group 2 and 39347 in group 19 have the same
ancestor, William Carter born in 1641. How come they don't end up in the
same group? I was curious about these because I expected to be related to
this same William Carter. Mine is 61419 in group 16.
Thanks
Meg Carter
