Gene,
I hope you don't mind if I put our discussion on the list. There are possibly
others who might want in on this conversation and might be interested in what we have.
I wanted to remind you of the George Carter that left a Will, May 1806 in Buckingham
County. I got it out of a book titled 'Early Buckingham Co, VA Legal papers
1765-1806, pg 71-72" by Jeanne Stinson. His children listed were: John,
Childress, Benajmin, William, George, Henry, Katy, Polly, JOSEPH, and Susannah Carter.
I wonder if this was the George that was the son of Joseph Carter & Catherine Ammon.
I read where their son George moved to Buckingham County. If he was born about 1730
(this is just a guess at his birthdate), that would make him about 76 years old when he
died. Also, George named a daughter Katy, and Joseph Carter & Catherine Ammon had a
daughter named Katy. So it would make sense that George would name a daughter after his
sister. In fact many of the names George gave his children, he had siblings with those
names. This George must have been very close to a Childress Family, because he named a
son Childress, and his daughter Sus!
annah married Drury Childress. Was your Joseph connected to any Childresses?
In that same book on pg 53 is this. I don't know who this Jesse Carter is. I
hope someone can interpret this information below, because I really don't understand
what it is saying. But it appears there is a connection to Jesse Carter deceased in
Prince Edward Court House and the goods and Chattles of John Childress???? Below is
the transcript.

I believe that we will find the father of both Bailey and Joseph among the Buckingham
County Carters.
You may have the information, but I obtained a tax list of Buckingham for 1764.
At that time there were 3 Carters showing, Joseph, George and John
Then in a petition in Buckingham County on Nov. 10, 1786 we find Joseph, John, There
were George and Ammon. I find the name "Ammon" as being signicant, since William
and
Mary's son, Joseph married Catherine Ammon, on Dec. 1, 1731.
Now on another petition in Buckingham County on Oct. 17, 1787. We find that there
were 2 Joseph Carters who signed at that time. Now keep in mind we have determined
that my Joseph was back in Buckingham by Jan. 1787 and there was already one
Joseph there in 1786.
Then in a petition signed Nov. 15,1794 in Buckingham there was a George and
a Joseph that signed this one. We know that by this time my Joseph was in
Tennessee. John Carter's name is not shown.
Ammon was still there in 1797 and it appears his wife's name was Susan.
Don't know if any of this will help in anyway, but sometimes a little information
can
go along ways.
