Greetings Cheryl and Carters,
My brother just sent in his DNA test but I am writing now to show
what I have in my research. Our line hopes the DNA results hooks us up to a
pre-set line.
We recognize our great grandmother's Carter line because she never
recorded who our great grandfather was. We have a ton of secondary proof it
was another Carter line moving through Nauvoo westward to Salt Lake City in
1885. The father died with 3 other men in a lumberman accident in July 1885
and she married a Middleton.
Her father, Joel Antony Carter, 1815-1872, fought in the Union and I
have bits and pieces of his life, including photos of his gravesite at Black
Oak Ridge Cem, Bluford, IL. He was born in Middle TN, perhaps in Rutherford
Co and married Mary E Cole there.
His father was Richard P Carter who recorded his marriage to Sarah
Sally Windrow in vital statistics in Tennessee. Richard P Carter and his
father, Robert Carter, were awarded land patents for fighting in the War of
1812 and moved to Middle TN in about 1814-1818. That was a rough place to
live before TWA locks and dams. That is why they took John Morgan's wagon
train to central IL.
We then show our Robert Carter (Rev?) migrating from England to Ft
Bedford, Bedford Co, VA. That county divided into Franklin and Green too.
It looks like they moved but didn't. Having trouble finding his vitals
because of this. Would they be in Richmond? This is where he met his
English lady, Alice Livesay (see Lufsey Line), dau. of Thomas Livesay from
Blackburn, Lancashire, ENG and started their family.
Our history connects with a Councilor Robert Carter also, leaving us
confused. I would love to discuss any above facts or share our pedigree.
Thank you for any help.
Cousin, Sharoncl

I think I am from the Goochland, Virginia Carters. That is, from Thomas
Carter, Sr. who left a Will in Goochland County, Virginia in 1738. All
that I
know has already been posted on RootsWeb by others.
If you do a search on RootsWeb for Thomas Carter with a date of death of
1738
. . . .
