Dear Group:
Several test results have been added to the site. Group 3 has another
match.
Many of you may have noticed the new DNA project sponsored by National
Geographic and several have asked about it. The DNA testing is being done
through Family Tree DNA and the results are going to remain anonymous. The
way I understand it, they are looking for migration patterns of humans, not
testing for any genealogical purposes. Still, it is a very interesting
project, and hopefully, it will make others aware of the value of DNA
testing, and help surname projects grow. If you are interested in the many
comments concerning this project you can read the archives of the DNA
mailing list at:
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/GENEALOGY-DNA/
This is a very busy list, most of the time miles over my head, but there are
some very knowledgeable people on this list.
I have had my Tallent grandson's DNA tested and he matched a 4th cousin, 3
times removed. We had never corresponded with each other and were so
excited to be able to share our research. Their common ancestor was born in
the mid 1700's in NC and drowned in the Holstein River in TN in 1810.. It
has been very exciting for us as it validates our research and together, we
are recruiting more participants.
This Carter group now has 92 members! For those who haven't had a match
yet, don't despair - the odds are getting better every day.
Vickie
