I'm going from memory here but this sounds a lot like my Carter line. My
Carter line is Group Q in the Carter DNA project. Do you have a member in
the Carter DNA project?
We have a lot of Carter-Carter cousin mariages in the family.

While researching my documented family Line, I found that Martha
Jane
Carter
(1857 - 1929) married a James W. Carter, born 1854, also called "Jim
Black,"
or possibly "Black Jim" to distinguish him from Martha Jane's brother
James.
I would suspect that this James would be a cousin to Martha, but I just
don't have him in my files. I think she married into a different Carter
line, and am hoping someone in this group knows which one.
Several posted trees have James as a son of Hezekiah and Elizabeth Carter,
of Paulding and Polk County, Georgia, but I can't see this at all. I
suspect
that James is instead the son of Reuben R. Carter and Cynthia Williams, of
Pike and Calhoun County. Alabama. This is where James and Martha Jane also
lived.
Can anyone help with this?
